Kevin Sorbo about The Movie Alongside Night and Giving Kids a Better Education
Kevin Sorbo, known for shows and movies like as Hercules, Andromeda, Meet the Spartans and Soul Surfer. Recently he starred in the movie Alongside Night. He plays an award winning world economist that along with his son take to the job of saving the country with a government that has run amok.
Nichelle Nichols, best known for Lt. Uhura on Star Trek Came out to support The Movie Alongside Night
Nichelle Nichols, Actress, Singer, Producer, best known for her part as Lt. Uhura on the original Star Trek and the first movies, came out to The movie Alongside Night starring Kevin Sorbo as she was in J. Neil Shulman’s award winning movie Lady Magdalene’s and also to introduce actor Darius Santos to the press..
Went to the premeire of Alongside Night to interview Kevin Sorbo and watch the movie, was I surprised to see Nichelle Nichols stop by.
You first must know that I am a huge sci fi fan and Trekor. I am not the type to dress up and go to Comicon, but I could get all nerdy on ya right now….
I will save you from that and just say that in this interview. Nichelle came with Darius Santos who who she met in the film Omaha Street. Nichelle, in the interview states that Darius was in the movie, but she may have been confused as he was not.
Nichelle was the guest of J. Neil Schulman who wrote and directed Alongside Night. Nichelle starred in J. Neil Schulman’s previous award winning movie Lady Magdelene’s.
Nichelle never gave me the name of the organization she supports, but I did some checking and she supports many great causes including Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
This was very special for me as an interviewer and Trekor as I got a warm hug from Nichelle, so thank you Nichelle (Lt Uhura) – JW
Nichelle Nichols (née Grace Dell Nichols on December 28, 1932) is an American actress, singer and voice artist. She sang with Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton before turning to acting.
Nichols’ most famous role is that of communications officer Lieutenant Uhura aboard the USS Enterprise in the popular Star Trek television series (1966-1969), as well as the succeeding motion pictures, where her character was eventually promoted in Starfleet to the rank of commander.
Her Star Trek character, one of the first African American female characters on American TV not portrayed as a servant, was groundbreaking in U.S society at the time.
Civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. personally praised her work on the show and asked her to remain when she was considering leaving the series.
In her role as Lieutenant Uhura, Nichols famously kissed white actor William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk in the November 22, 1968, Star Trek episode “Plato’s Stepchildren“. The episode is popularly cited as the first example of an inter-racial kiss on United States television. The Shatner-Nichols kiss was seen as groundbreaking, even though the kiss was portrayed as having been forced by alien telekinesis.
There was some praise and some protest. In her 1994 autobiography, Beyond Uhura, Star Trek and Other Memories, on page 197 Nichols cites a letter from one white Southerner who wrote: “I am totally opposed to the mixing of the races. However, any time a red-blooded American boy like Captain Kirk gets a beautiful dame in his arms that looks like Uhura, he ain’t gonna fight it.”
During the Comedy Central Roast of Shatner on August 20, 2006, Nichols jokingly referred to the groundbreaking moment and said, “Let’s make TV history again … and you can kiss my black ass!”
Darius Tyreal Santos
Darius Tyreal Santos went to Sacramento State and now lives in Beverly Hills California.
Darius is an actor best known for his parts in Omaha Street with Dennis Haysbert and Nichelle Nichols.
Darius met Nichelle on the set of Omaha Street and Nichelle and Darius stayed together the whole evening with Darius making sure that Nichelle was taken care of. He was a real gentleman. Nichelle highly praised Darius as a friend and a great actor.
Alongside Night (Movie)
It’s the near future and America is in trouble. Hyperinflation and disorder reign in the towns and cities of the nation.
But this isn’t Atlas Shrugged.
It’s the nonstop action and suspense in award-winning indie filmmaker J. Neil Schulman’s latest production, Alongside Night, based on his award-winning 1979 novel endorsed by Nobel-laureate Milton Friedman, Anthony Burgess, Glenn Beck, and Ron Paul.
Starring Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys), Said Faraj (Green Zone), Contact and Starship Troopers’ Jake Busey, Star Trek Voyager’s Tim Russ and Garrett Wang, Alien Nation’s Gary Graham, Men in Black 3′s Valence Thomas, Parks and Recreation’s Mara Marini, Lady Magdalene’s Ethan Keogh, Adam Meir and Susan Smythe, Kevin Sorbo’s real-life wife, actress Sam Sorbo, singer/songwriter Jordan Page, and real-life activist Adam Kokesh, as well as up-and-coming actors Christian Kramme, Reid Cox, Kyle Leatherberry, Rebekah Kennedy, Charlie Morgan Patton, and Eric Colton, this is a film far more real than The Hunger Games.
This is the story of Elliot Vreeland (Kramme), son of Nobel Prize-winning economist Dr. Martin Vreeland (Sorbo). When his family goes missing and while being shadowed by federal agents (Faraj and Leatherberry), Elliot, with the help of his mysterious companion Lorimer (Cox), explore the underground world of the Revolutionary Agorist Cadre to find them. It’s a story of romance, intrigue, action, adventure, and exhilarating science fiction thrills.

Happy Fourth of July….
It is the day we celebrate our independence with the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
There is some debate and mystery to when the actual document was signed as far as we know the Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia on the 1st of July, and voted in favor of independence and then after many rewrites, the agreed upon document was written and signed by a few of the signers, then a few were printed, on July the fourth of 1776.
Several copies were printed on the 5th of July and were sent out to the 13 colonies, local officials and to the troops.
There is quite a bit of debate about exactly when everyone signed. All the signatures of the Declaration of Independence we now have were put on the document from the 4th of July and many on the 19th and then more after August 2nd of 1776.

On Purpose Magazine has moved to a more robust platform and is getting ready for a face lift.
You should not notice any differences in the look and feel of On Purpose Magazine, but there has been a major change recently.
On Purpose Magazine was originally hosted with WordPress.com and is now running WordPress.org.
I know this doesn’t sound like much to most of us, but to the techies and website gurus out there, this is a major change.
What it means is that we now have more room to grow and expand usability for our readers.
Keep your eyes peeled for some big changes coming soon, but for now we will continue to produce the best and most interesting content we can.
In the past I have spent my Memorial weekend with Walk for Warriors in Los Angeles, CA to honor vets and their families. This year due to some health issues I can not make it, but I do want to let everyone know about it.
Also if you have a special place you go or some great cause or organization you believe needs support please mention them here!
I have found that most veterans do not know what is available out there and there actually is a fair amount of third party resources for vets in need.

If you are looking to move from WordPress.com to WordPress.org anytime soon then this is the time to buy a 3 year hosing plan at 50% off.
Here is my buddies affiliate link
This is will help you and him. Bob is one of my best friends and tech mentors. If you just want to skip this link and go to Hostgator.com then you can do that also. There is also a toll free number you can call 866-964-2867 and I found that Edson at ext 817637 was quite helpful. Ordering off the site is easy so you do not need to call in, but if you need to speak to someone then the toll free is great support.
Also there are some addons. I cannot help you here. I did get the backup feature, but left out the rest. It is up to you. Can’t help you here. If you are selling on your site and want to take credit card information then you probably want the security addon as it gives pci certification. If you use Paypal or other vendor you may not need this feature.
Why am I sending this out? I wanted to move for some time as WordPress.org is so much more powerful, but you need to know when to get the best bang for your buck and the 50% off does not come around too often.
For those moving to WP.org what is the downside? There is a lot more maintenance to deal with, but I believe the power and usability make up for that if you are willing.
Come as You Are: Living in Stage Four

Reblooged from Stand Up To Cancer Blog
By Mary Elizabeth Williams
Everybody loves a winner. And when I first got cancer, I was such a winner. I had faced a malignant melanoma diagnosis, a difficult, permanently scarring surgery, and a painful recovery with flying colors. I was, both friends and strangers alike told me admiringly, a “survivor.” Then a year later I was rediagnosed. Metastatic this time. Stage Four. And suddenly I wasn’t a winner any more.
Growing up, I was always the kid picked last in gym class, the one nobody really wanted on their teams. When I got Stage Four cancer, it was a lot like that. I wasn’t the popular survivor any more. I wasn’t a feel good champion of pluck and survival. Some of my friends looked awkwardly at their feet when I came into the room. Others told me – with great authority – that I just needed a positive attitude and I could beat this thing. Some flat out dumped me. It was a lonely, weird place. But you know who needs a team most? It’s not the popular kid. It’s the scared, lonely one in the back. I never needed help and support and basic kindness more than I when I was at Stage Four, and yet I never felt more invisible. And almost as deep as my fear of the cancer that was growing within my body was the profound sense that I had somehow let everybody down. That I was a disappointment.
Fortunately, soon after my devastating news, I joined a local cancer support group. Even before my first meeting, I knew it was the right place for me because of its simple four word slogan. “Come as you are.” There, it didn’t matter that I was Stage Four, that my odds were slim. There, I didn’t feel like I was on death row, I wasn’t a failure in my personal version of “Survivor: Cancer Island.” In my support group, I could just come as I was, every week, with no expectations, no performance anxiety.
People with metastatic cancer tend to be ignored in the public discourse of cancer. We don’t fit the profile of the upbeat warrior, triumphant and bald. And so, we often remain unseen. Mysterious. Definitely a little spooky. I certainly didn’t know much about what the terrain was like until I found myself on it. All I knew was that it had to very, very bad for there to be no Stage 5. And so, when my oncologist told me I was Stage Four, I was, unsurprisingly……………

Carl F. Bucherer has Created the Most Unusual Watch Winder in Rinspeeds New Concept Care the XchangE
Possibly the world’s most exclusive watch winder. Carl F. Bucherer in the new XchangE from Rinspeed.
This car does not stop at having a watch winder in the steering wheel. This is a driverless car. You can turn the driver and passenger seats around and watch a movie while the car takes care of the drive. There is an office desktop in the armrest so you can work on things while driving, and so much more…
The watch winder in the steering column has to be the ultimate watch winder for you watch lovers, like me, out there.
Just watch the video below… You will be AMAZED! and do not forget to check out www.carl-f-bucherer.com – JW
New York, NY, (March 3, 2014) – At this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Switzerland’s creative custom automobile specialist Rinspeed will unveil its innovative new concept car, the driverless XchangE. Carl F. Bucherer is pleased and proud to support this latest project from Frank M. Rinderknecht and to acknowledge his central values – innovation, sustainability and passion – with the creation of one of the world’s most unusual watch winders.
Frank M. Rinderknecht is a visionary. For over 30 years, he and Rinspeed have developed new, forward-looking approaches to mobility, always with the aim of developing the ultimate vehicle. He is passionate not only about tuning and modifying private luxury automobiles, but also about designing and developing vehicles that have never been seen before. The production of these concept cars and limited series is based on sustainability and the kind of innovative ideas that will change the world of mobility.
The concept cars designed by Frank M. Rinderknecht are beyond all compare. Whether it is transparent bodywork, suitability for underwater travel, or the possibility of transforming the vehicle from a one to a three-seater in a few simple steps, every model from Rinspeed opens up new ways of looking at mobility.
Realizing a Vision
The fascinating new XchangE concept car will have its public debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. As usual, the new model serves as a showcase for Rinspeed’s forward-looking solutions. With an eye to the trailblazing technology that developments in the automobile industry have put within our reach, the XchangE is all about driverless mobility.
This, of course, opens up a whole vista of new possibilities for passengers because they can now use travel time productively. For total relaxation on the road, the interior can be reconfigured to provide comfortable space for sleeping or working on the road.
The smart design of the steering wheel enables it to be relocated to the middle of the vehicle and the seats moved to comfortable positions. This creates a comfortable feeling of space.
With the concept car, the driving time that used to be simply lost can now be dedicated to other things, which radically changes the concept of travel: sleep, work, live – and cover distance at the same time without exertion or fatigue. From now on, it is possible to travel through time zones.
Carl F. Bucherer: Taking you through Time
Integrated in the instrument panel, the exclusive Patravi TravelTec automatic from Carl F. Bucherer is a striking statement of the meaning of time for travelers. A beautifully designed timepiece, it enables passengers to keep track of three different time zones at once.
The watch is blue in color – to match the car – and embedded in a luxurious, engraved globe, which is probably also the world’s most exclusive watch winder. When the car is idling, the sphere turns continuously, thus guaranteeing that the watch is always fully wound.
Effectively, this makes the entire car a watch winder, whose exclusiveness and sophistication boost the value of the entire concept car to over one million dollars. The watch winder allows travelers to keep track of time even if their journey takes them through different time zones.
The result is a unique masterpiece, born of the vision of two innovative companies and uniting technical perfection with passion.
Partnership with a Future
The concept cars are the product of a creative spirit who refuses to be slowed by convention and resolutely goes new ways. Rinspeed shares this approach with Carl Friedrich Bucherer, the founder of the well-known Lucerne watch manufacturing company.
Outstanding technology, first-class materials and an unending passion for their own products are the factors common to these two innovative companies. For Carl F. Bucherer, the decision to support the new Rinspeed XchangE project, which impressively brings together the dimensions of time and distance, was an easy one.
About Carl F. Bucherer:
The name Carl F. Bucherer has been synonymous with quality, innovation, and passion since 1888. Founded in Lucerne, this modest Swiss family business has grown into the internationally renowned Bucherer brand with its own worldwide chain of stores.
The Bucherer Group remains family-run today and is currently in its third generation, managed by the owner and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Jörg G. Bucherer. In homage to founder Carl Friedrich Bucherer, the manufacturing brand of the same name was repositioned in 2001.
Watches and their movements are developed and manufactured in the company’s own workshops in Switzerland. The breakthrough innovation was the manufacturer’s own CFB A1000 movement, which is driven by an external rotor. Bold design and technically sophisticated inner workings are the hallmarks of Carl F. Bucherer watches, which show more than just the time.

If you have special needs kids, that’s not my problem, shut them up and shut them down, put them where I can’t see them, nor hear them. They’re a NUISANCE.
Bangsa Ria Day Care Center
This is essentially what two Malaysian citizens have to say about a day care center for special needs in their neighborhood, they have filed a case against the school and want it removed from their locality.
To quote them from the article linked above:
“The applicants have suffered nuisance throughout the day from 8.30 am to 5pm, Monday to Friday as a result of intolerable noise made by the special children as well as their attendants and carers.
(The applicants have suffered) nuisance of experiencing the uncomfortable sensation of seeing the disabilities and sufferings of all the special children, the whole day, day in day out.”
What is it to me, and why am I writing about this?
My friend helps run the Bangsa Ria Day Care Center , and her son is one of the students.
But that is not the point.
I have been to this school. Watching the smiles of the people who work there, and the special kids they share their day with, is an incredibly joyous experience.
But that is not the point either.
That’s not my day care center, my son doesn’t go there, heck, I’m not even a mother. That’s not my neighborhood, Kuala lumpur is not my city, Malaysia is not my country. What business is it of mine if this little daycare thingie gets shut down? I can make a few sympathetic, clucking noises to my friend, and move on with life.
But here comes my point: I’ve had it Upto Here with people telling me to shut up. With people telling other people to shut up when all they want is to be accepted for being who they are, with no intention of [Read More.....]
