Anyway, I met Viki from Expert Insights and when she found out that I have stage 4 prostrate carcinoma, she kindly offered me a chapter to write in the book.

I was so happy as I know through Rick, that Viki has had a few number one books and I knew this was a chance to tell my story and that by getting in this potential bestseller I could reach a larger audience and hopefully help others with cancer handle this tough journey.

This book is full of stories from patients, survivors, health care professionals and family members of patients and the departed. It is the inspirational book on cancer that all patients, and their loved ones need to read to get through the rough times. Remember the family and friends of a patient go through much of the same pain, depression, anxiety and fear that the patient does. Not in the same way, but sometimes just as bad. I know of a couple of professionals that have lost patients they had gotten to know as very close friends and so even the professionals feel the pain and we all need hope. When you finish your last radiation treatment at USC Norris Cancer Center you get to ring this bell. It seems silly, but you are so glad it is over that this bell can really choke you up.

I had found that even thought the treatments, the pain, the side effects from the drugs, the knowing your may only have a short time with your loved ones an having to tell people like your mother that you have a terminal disease is just no picnic, but that with the right attitude you can find blessings and gratitude in so many things and I really wanted to share that with others.

My cancer had moved from my prostate into the bone and I had some tumors boring into my spine. I had to have spine surgery to address the tumors and this is me with USC P.T. staff learning to walk correctly. I didn’t know I had it wrong all these years… 🙂

So many patients fall apart and it is hard not to have your pity party and why me days. In fact I would agree that someone in that position has every right to feel depressed, angry and just plain bad about bad news, but I have also found that in doing so, the patient puts themselves in a terrible place that if hard to get out of. I believe what you focus on expands and focusing on all the crap that comes with a terminal disease can kill you faster and harder that the disease itself.

If you have cancer or know of someone that does, you need to get this book for yourself or your friend or family member. The only positive way through the storm is with hope and inspiration and this book is full of stories by survivors and others like myself.

One of the things I like about what I do is meeting and working with public relations professionals. I have been blessed to work with some big names and many smaller companies.

The other side of that coin is that I have also worked with many companies that call themselves professionals, but only seem to be playing at it. Public relations, I have found, can rarely be faked. They say even a blind squirrel can occasionally find a nut or two, but I have rarely seen a bad PR firm pull off a successful event or project.

What I have seen is that promotion is a tricky game and that you can never be sure that any effort will deliver a result, but you can be assured that no action or a half hearted stab at it will result in failure .

So when I get to work with firms like The Blaine Group, it just makes my day and my life easier. They are professionals that do what they say and say what they do and they work at under-promising and over-delivering, not the other way around.

There are so many things to think about out there in the Webisphere nowadays. Some are important and many many more… Not so much.

Obviously Google, Bing and Yahoo are pretty important, but have you heard of your site Alexa score?

If not, you should get acquainted with this service. The Alexa rating can say a lot about a site. It rates your site against a huge number of sites around the world and nationally and the numbers are based on mostly activity. Having a great site that ranks well with Google does not have to necessarily have the best traffic, but with Alexa, traffic is key to your getting the best rating.

Most sites start out in the tens of millions and you know when you are starting to do well when you get to around one million. Alexa does not show full stats for your site till you are ranked in the top 100,000 internationally. I want my sites to be under 500,000. You can gauge your site or your competitions sites etc…

Go to Alexa now and type in a few well known or favorite sites of yours to check out the numbers.

Once you understand this service you will probably figure out why it may be important to have your site properly registered at Alexa, though in the past this has been an issue for sites at WordPress.com.

Alexa.com is one of the big players in the search engine business that has been around since 1996. Although it isn’t as large as Google.com or Bing.com, it plays a unique and important role.

Specifically, Alexa openly gives detailed site metrics and traffic reporting with its search results that a large number of tools and people use when evaluating a Web site. Also, Alexa has an extensive set of APIs and Web Services that are commonly used by a large number of third party search tools

Alexa is a subsidiary of Amazon.com, and so in my opinion it is likely to continue to grow in stature along with Amazon. As well, it has close ties to both Google and the Open Directory Project, which are both prominent players in the search world.

So bottom line here is that getting your site into Alexa and having it properly catalogued is pretty important.

But the process of claiming your site in Alexa is not easy if you are trying to claim a WordPress.com site. There is a lot of mis-information out there as well as incompletely written instructions (including on the Alexa FAQ site itself). I found this out the hard way today.

In order to save everyone some time I am putting together this article on how I successfully registered my WordPress.com hosted blog with Alexa.

Step #1: was to create an account with Alexa. This is fairly straightforward, just follow the instructions the site gives.

Step #2: Once you have your Alexa login and you are logged into your new account, click on the second toolbar tab on the top of the site titled ‘Claim Your Site’ .

Kaya Redford has spent his life studying NLP from the Masters and he shares what he has learned with thousands to help them get rid of fear, anger, anxiety, self sabotage and all the emotions that hold you back from having a fully realized and happy life.

I first met Kaya about four or five years ago at an event he produced with Bob Proctor, to help people learn about the concepts of Napoleon Hill’s great book “Think and Grow Rich”.

I was invited to some of his classes to sit in and check them out and I was impressed with the depth of his teaching. He brought his classes through line after line of the book, not stopping till the class thoroughly understood what was being said and how it related to each of them in their own journeys to build a full, successful and better life.

Later on I heard Kaya, who had learned from the top NLP Masters, was teaching a course in NLP and how to use the science to help them in sales, business and again, in fulfilling their greatest potential.

I asked Kaya to let me into the class, which he always keeps small so he can give individual attention. He welcomed me in as that is the kind of person Kaya is. The class was, once again, amazingly full of great information and tools that he had everyone work out in class. Kaya never just speaks, he gets his classes fully involved. I learned a lot that day about the good of NLP as I was one of those that only thought that NLP was used to convince people to buy stuff they really didn’t want.

I have wanted to get Kaya to do an interview with me for the longest time, but we have never been able to get the two of us in sync with schedules so I am so happy that we finally got him to give us some of his very precious time.

The call quality is not what I would have liked, but I did not want to reschedule this one because I believe what Kaya has to say will help a lot of people.

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created in the 1970s. The title refers to a stated connection between the neurological processes (“neuro”), language (“linguistic”), and behavioral patterns that have been learned through experience (“programming”) and can be organized to achieve specific goals in life.[1][2]

The founders of NLP, Richard Bandler and John Grinder, say that NLP is capable of addressing problems such as phobias, depression, habit disorder, psychosomatic illnesses, and learning disorders.[citation needed] Their stated aim was in “finding ways to help people have better, fuller and richer lives.”[8][9] Bandler and Grinder claimed that if the effective patterns of behaviour of exceptional people could be modeled then these patterns could be acquired by others. Personal Note from the interviewer:

There are many who challenge NLP as pseudoscience and I would not argue with many of the findings of the studies which have been done, but I always believe the often there is no black and white. The truth is often somewhere in the middle.

What I do know is that the masters of marketing are using and have used NLP for many years. I have been to many many conferences with some of the greatest speakers and sales people in the world and they care about the numbers they sell to. They are continually testing techniques to sell more or to build better rapport with their audiences and they throw out what does not work, but these speakers and marketers continually use NLP concepts and techniques over and over again so, to me, this points to the probability that there are NLP techniques that work and can be very powerful.

There is no mysticism about NLP and not all the techniques will work with everyone in every situation. It is a tool that systematizes our responses in order to better communicate to your audience, clients or relationships.

I am no expert so that is my opinion. I have used a few NLP techniques to help clients get to a comfort level with me very quickly. I use mirroring and have found that it works extremely well. I have also used the anchoring technique and found that it worked, but I do not use it as it is not a technique that feels natural to me though I know many that love that technique.

Kaya’s NLP course went so much farther into how people react to different situations and how you can use these reactions to open up communications to their fullest potential.

We have seen technology change things for the better and the worse in a very short time and Randy believes that, not only do we need to embrace the change, but we have to get extremely creative and change our way of thinking and looking at the world, if we want to be successful in it.

This book will be called many things. A game changer, a look at the future or even crazy talk, but whatever you believe you will be changed by this book as once a mind is stretched, it is hard to put back.

One thing I know for sure is that Randy Gage doesn’t say things he does not mean and he explains in great detail why he believes what he is predicting and what you need to do to take advantage of the incredible changes yet to come.

Warren Carlos Sapp (born December 19, 1972) is a former American college and professional football player who was defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for thirteen seasons. He played college football for the University of Miami Hurricanes, was recognized as a consensus All-American and won multiple awards. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1995 NFL Draft as the 12th overall pick, and played professionally for the Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders of the NFL. He spent nine seasons with the Buccaneers where he earned seven trips to the Pro Bowl and a Super Bowl ring in 2002. He moved to the Raiders in 2004.

His 96.5 career sacks (100 counting the playoffs) are the second-highest career total sacks for a defensive tackle and the 28th highest overall for a defensive lineman. His 77 sacks with the Buccaneers is second in the team’s history.

In 2002, Sapp helped lead a resurgent Tampa Bay team to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII over the Oakland Raiders. Sapp had five tackles and two sacks during the 2002-2003 postseason, and was an instrumental staple in the league leading Buccaneers defense.

The number one reason to use Pinterest is for the referral traffic – that is the percentage of Pinterest visitors who click on links to go to other sites, is far higher on Pinterest than other social media sites, according to Mashable.com.

As of March 2012 Pinterest was ranked as the #3 social media site, with 104 million visitors.  Here’s the ranking:

Walk for Warriors is a family-friendly 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk to help transitioning veterans in Los Angeles.

Walk for Warriors will help provide assistance for veterans through transitional housing, job training and placement, counseling, adult basic education classes and family reunification services. In addition to the race, Walk for Warriors will feature an Expo booth fair with food and local businesses as well as a performance by the award-winning New Directions Veterans Choir, a singing group comprised of formerly homeless veterans.

This year’s event will be hosted by KTTV Fox 11 news anchor and local philanthropist Christine Devine. Devine is the recipient of 16 Emmys, including the Academy’s prestigious Governor’s Award, and one award specifically for a story on injured and disfigured veterans.

“I’m thrilled to be participating in Walk for Warriors,” Devine said. “With the unique set of challenges facing veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, this event will bring attention to the urgent need for supporting our vets as they transition home.”

New Directions, a nonprofit transitional living program, has been helping the Los Angeles veteran community since 1992.

According to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), there are more than 8,000 homeless veterans on any given night in Los Angeles.

New Directions offers a wide variety of services including housing, substance abuse treatment, counseling, remedial education, job training and placement as well as family reunification and money management classes.

Why do we exist?

New Directions provides services, support and transitional housing to homeless veterans with co-occurring disorders. Essential services at New Directions’ five residential homes include drug and alcohol detoxification and rehabilitation, mental health treatment, food, clothing, shelter, job training, and help with finding permanent housing. This nonprofit agency is unique because it was founded by formerly homeless Vietnam veterans, and has developed an effective “veterans helping veterans” model.

As women and men head home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are more and increasingly diverse vets in need of help. New Directions’ individualized care and treatment methods enable the agency to provide comprehensive, holistic services to veterans of all ages and backgrounds – both seasoned veterans and a new generation just now returning from combat.

What have you accomplished?

From its founding in 1992, New Directions’ history has been filled with reclaimed lives, rediscovered futures and re-imagined possibilities for more than 30,000 veterans who have faithfully and generously served our country.

Each year, New Directions extends help to some 600 veterans through residential substance abuse treatment programs, job training and placement, health assessment and emergency shelter services and a permanent housing placement program. Since beginning operations in an 8-person home, New Directions has grown into a major national model for rehabilitating and housing homeless veterans. Now with 5 facilities, 229 beds, and new permanent, supportive housing in development, New Directions makes a difference in the lives of individual veterans, and on the landscape of homelessness in Los Angeles.

Chet and I have been chatting over Twitter while Chet has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments after his bone marrow transplant.

It has been a tough one, I am sure, for his family and friends, but Chet is a fighter and he is not only coming back, but he is coming back better. Chet told me that he tried every natural, mystical and spiritual cure you can think of or name and more. Chet has learned a lot about himself and his body and has become really serious about his nutrition. We talked privately before the interview and I found out that he discovered what I have about sugar and starches….. Bad, bad, bad.

At the time of this interview Chet had 15 more days of chemo to go through, but his white cell counts and other tests were all extremely positive.

Chet is only working about 3 hours a day right now so I thank him so much for giving me one hour to just talk about stuff, but Chet is not good at just shooting the breeze and insisted on giving you two ways to double your sales.

I am starting to see stories like the one below that talk about which one is better for the marketer. Pinterest or Google+ and I ask… so where is Facebook in this debate? Is Facebook done and are we moving on?

I am sure that many will say that Facebook is not out… What are you talking about JW? No Facebook is not out, but for a few years we have been talking about not putting all our eggs in one basket as marketers, because we do not know where the pendulum will swing and who will land on top, for what reason or why.

Everyone uses the “Remember MySpace?” question when speaking about where the social technologies are going. No one knows, and I believe it is stories like this one, that kinda start the catalyst of small shifts that start moves to other platforms, even to platforms we cannot even perceive right not.

Waves form, tipping points are hit and we as networkers and marketers are always looking for a better way. A leg up on the competition and we want to be the early adopter, as the early bird seems to get the most worms.

Instagram sells for 1Billion to Facebook! Who’d a seen that coming. Now that Instagram is available on the Android will this app take off as the next big place you have to be? Will other companies do Instagram better? Can Pinterest add pages and allow for picture manipulation?

Speaking of Pinterest… What about Meaki?

What do you think is the next big wave… Is all this short lived fad or long term paradigm shifts in how people and business will communicate?

By the way… Business pages for Google +… Is anyone using them successfully? I have not seen them pointed to, talked about or used in any manner that seems to matter and Facebook took their configurable pages and will not allow you to default to them anymore so what is the use of them?

Am I the only one that seems to be in a constant state of confusion?

The Roxy Owner Nic Alder Receives an Excellance Award for Social Media Marketing


The Gravity Summit at UCLA awarded Nic Adler an award at for Excellence in Social Media Marketing.

The Roxy Theatre in Hollywood, CA, has been an icon of rock and roll since it’s Neil Young Opening in 1973 till today. Great bands and not so great bands appear there nightly celebrating The Roxy’s long prestigious Rock Hall of Fame Status.

Nic Adler, son of the Roxy’s founder and famous  producer Lou Adler, is now owner and manager of the famed venue and is using new social technologies to keep true to the history, but also use building of community in the rock marketplace to make sure the Roxy continues to thrive for the next 40 years.

Nic took minute after his acceptance speech to tell us about how he felt as this was his first, hopefully of many, awards.

The roxy bmarleyThe Roxy Theatre (often just The Roxy) is the lengendary nightclub located on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California. It was opened on September 23, 1973 by Elmer Valentine and Lou Adler along with original partners David Geffen, Elliot Roberts and Peter Asher. They took over building previously occupied by a strip club owned by Chuck Landis called the Largo. (Adler was actually responsible for bringing the stage play Rocky Horror Show to the United States, and it opened its first American run at The Roxy Theatre in 1974, before it was made into the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show the next year.)

Hundreds of famous and yet-to-be-famous acts such as Nirvana (band), Tori Amos, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, Al Stewart, Jane’s Addiction and David Bowie have played this highly prestigious venue. Recently, it has hosted private DJ nights as well as after-parties following the shows downstairs; on a Tuesday night not long ago, all three members of buzz band Kings of Leon were spotted heading upstairs to rock out with the Mooney Suzuki after their Roxy show.”

Warren Sapp Superbowl Champion and Runner Up on Dancing With the Stars,

talks to us after his speech at the 2012 Gravity Summit UCLA where he spoke mainly about how he uses Twitter to stay in touch with fans.
Warren has over 780,000 followers on Twitter and he is very active answering questions and talking to his fan base.

Warren Sapp received the Gravity Summit Award for Excellence in Social Media as he is one of the sports industries leaders in how he uses social media to keep in touch with fans and to market his projects and products.

Other winners of this award were Janina Gavankar, who plays Luna on “True Blood” and Nic Alder, owner and manager of the famed Roxy Nightclub in Hollywood, California.

Warren kept the crowd laughing with his great stories and signature smile as he accepted the award and then he spent the evening saying hello, taking pictures with his fans and watching the plethora of professionals in entertainment and sports social media give panel discussions on the state of social media, how they use it now and how they will be expanding this new media in all aspects of building fan community and marketing channels for their projects and products.

It was a fun interview, mainly because Warren is fun and a real warm a real hearted guy, though, I am sure there are some quarterbacks out there that would disagree. – JW

Warren Carlos Sapp (born December 19, 1972) is a former American college and professional football player who was defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for thirteen seasons. He played college football for the University of Miami Hurricanes, was recognized as a consensus All-American and won multiple awards. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1995 NFL Draft as the 12th overall pick, and played professionally for the Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders of the NFL. He spent nine seasons with the Buccaneers where he earned seven trips to the Pro Bowl and a Super Bowl ring in 2002. He moved to the Raiders in 2004.

His 96.5 career sacks (100 counting the playoffs) are the second-highest career total sacks for a defensive tackle and the 28th highest overall for a defensive lineman. His 77 sacks with the Buccaneers is second in the team’s history.

In 2002, Sapp helped lead a resurgent Tampa Bay team to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII over the Oakland Raiders. Sapp had five tackles and two sacks during the 2002-2003 postseason, and was an instrumental staple in the league leading Buccaneers defense.

Tears for Fears are an English pop/rock band formed in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith.

Founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced Graduate, they were initially associated with the New Wave synthesiser bands of the early 1980s but later branched out into mainstream rock and pop, which led to international chart success.

I got a chance to be interviewed by Bob Bare of Bestselling Experts about building organic SEO. I have built many sites and have proven that I can get traffic to the site. I am now working on proving that valuable, inspiring, educational content will get you there faster than content for the sake of content.
What I see many doing is finding interesting stories and linking to them for content. This can work and has done well for many, like AllTop and a few others, but I believe people really are looking for something they cannot find somewhere else.
I just started JW On Purpose and hope that this will prove my point.

JW Najarian

JW Najarian was born in Sacramento California in 1958 and grew up in beautiful Lake Tahoe California.

Growing up in Lake Tahoe gave JW appreciation for nature and at one time he contemplated becoming a naturalist with the forest service. After spending two years with the Youth Conservation Corps, as a student and then teacher he joined the Navy.

Wanting to get training in electronics, he failed the color blind test and was sent to Yeoman school where he learned about military office management. Before his school JW volunteered as a human research subject for the Navy and spent three years stationed in New Orleans at the George C. Marshall Space Center as a test subject for acceleration, deacceleration research. With his office located in the Saturn V test cell, he worked as a research assistant to Dr Robert S. Kennedy and also as an operator of the main computer system that ran and collected data for all the testing.

After the military JW enrolled himself in electronics classes at ITT and got a degree in electronics. He had not forgot his dream of learning electronics and wanted to use that knowledge to hopefully work in music production.

That never happened as the economy tanked in the late 80’s electronics jobs became scarce and JW relied on his knowledge of computers to support himself.

JW worked in the field of computers, electronics and networks till around 2006 when he got the bug to change careers and choose commercial real estate as his new direction.

Again the economy turned sour and commercial real estate got hit hard so JW decided to try marrying his knowledge of businesss, marketing, social media and computers with his new found knowledge of commercial real estate and started the Commercial Real Estate Professional Investors Group (CREPIG) in a quest to help the ailing industry recover by finding may lost funding resources and deals.

CREPIG now has around 12,000 members worldwide and has led to JW co-founding The Commercial Real Estate Distressed Assets Association (CREDAA) which is helping educate CRE professionals in underwriting and learning more about how to handle deals in this distressed market.

JW On Purpose came out of the fact that JW was doing many interviews of CRE industry leaders for his sites and wanted to expand to other markets outside of finance. JW now does interviews with authors, speakers, thought leaders and sometimes celebrities about various subjects, focusing on cause and purpose.

Many of the movers and shakers out there are interviewed about what they do to make money and we want to know that, but we also want to know what causes they support. The world can only shift if we do our part and JW On Purpose wants to focus on helping businesses and leaders with their efforts to help support their philanthropic projects and concerns by spotlighting what they do and who they help, both in business and the community.

JW does many interviews of authors, especially on books with cause and purpose, great story and ones that are educational about the world, finance, business and self development.

Lisa McCarthy and I used to work in the Information Technology industry together.  She had a regular 9 to 5 job and then I gave her a book called the Millionaire Mind by Harv Eker.  OK so it looks like I am claiming being the catalyst for rise to success. Maybe, but I think there was already something there that led Lisa to want more. To want to be an entrepreneur.
