Famed Composer Tom Bähler on His New Book “Anything is Possible; a Tale of Aesop”
Tom Bahler was a background singer for the Partridge Family, wrote Bobby Sherman‘s hit “Julie Do Ya Love Me”, Cher‘s “Living in a House Divided” and Michael Jackson‘s “She’s Out Of My Life”. He has also appeared in a film or two. He was an associate producer and arranger on “We Are The World”. Music Supervisor on “The Color Purple” and Choir Arranger on “The Wiz”. He has also composed the music to a number of other movies and scored a number of soundtracks.
And now Tom Bahler has written a fascinating fictional account of the life of the famed creator of Aesop’s Fables, a brilliant storyteller and eternal optimist who lived around 600 BCE. Tom joins us while speaking at Author 101 to talk about his new book and his new journey writing.
I love to interview authors because they are often great story tellers and they have rather interesting lives.
Tom Bähler is absolutely no exception. He has one of the most interesting stories you will run across.
Tom is a fun guy, who really likes people and loves to share his story and it was so fun getting to talk with him. Rick Frishman pops in at the end of the interview and we all have a great time.
Thank you Tom for gracefully giving your time, as you were quite popular and busy at the conference and thanks to Rick Frishman for such a great conference that attracts such great people like Tom – JW
Tom Bähler
Thomas Bähler has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the entertainment industry. He composed music for Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, directors Steven Spielberg and Barry Levinson, magicians Siegfried and Roy, Superbowl Halftime Shows and a number of other high profile stage productions.
As a songwriter he’s written many hits including “She’s Out of My Life” “Living In A House Divided” and “Julie Do You Love Me.” Thomas created vocal arrangements for the landmark charity event “We Are the World,” as well as for Barbara Streisand, Billy Joel, and the motion picture version of “The Wiz.”
He served as Music Director for a number of events sponsored by the White House, including “America’s Millennium”, “Points of Light” and President Clinton’s Inaugural Concert. Mr. Bähler has also served as Music Director and arranger for “The Kennedy Center Honors.”
The Book
Anything Is Possible; A Tale of ÆSOP
Anything Is Possible, Illustrated edition, an original novel by Thomas Bähler is a thought-provoking modern treasure, a fascinating fictional account of the life of the famed creator of Aesop’s Fables, a brilliant storyteller and eternal optimist who lived around 600 BCE.
The life of the great philosopher and teacher Æsop is explored for the first time ever in a brilliantly crafted historical fiction illuminated by fifty full page illustrations .
The novel begins with Aesop’s birth as a slave, covers his long quest for freedom and examines his service to the richest and most powerful man in the world.
Many would be surprised to know that Æsop, an enduring philosopher in the modern world, was born a slave. Yet, later in life, he served as Ambassador to the wealthiest King in ancient history, simply with a fierce belief in his own potential, and the ever-stalwart laws of reality…anything is possible.
Today, Æsop and his fables are quoted an estimated one million times daily, across the globe. Not bad for someone who lived 2600 years ago.
Written with the same simple genius as its central protagonist, in Anything Is Possible, the reader discovers the meaning of Æsop’s profound lessons on his/her own… subsequently, you, the reader, own these lessons, forever.
Change requires your permission.
Are you ready to BE POSSIBLE?
If this man, born a slave in 620 BC, can still inspire the world with his message in the year 2013… what does that mean YOU can do?
POSSIBILITY AWAITS…
We are all here to serve.
We are all here to BE POSSIBLE.
“A thought provoking exploration of freedom. It will inspire anyone who has ever dreamed of a better life.” – Quincy Jones
I caught Tom at Rick Frishman‘s Author 101 University Event in Los Angeles. Tom had a small booth where her signed books for people and was available to talk to everyone.
Tom also spoke on stage along with his friend Hollywood Producer of “Pretty Woman”, “Mothman Prophecies” and “Under Siege I & II, Gary W. Goldstein.

NicodermCQ / Nicorette Introduce New Pledge To Quit Program at GBK Luxury Gifting Suite to Help Support TabaccoFreeKids.org
NicodermCQs Jason Andre explains their new pledge program and how they are helping GBK Gifting Suites help people and kids, quit smoking.
As someone that has recently stopped smoking, I can attest to how tough it can be.
I quit with every other puff and finally it took. I really should have tried NicodermCQ or Nicorette, but I was too stubborn and it cost me so much quality time with my lungs.
Since quitting I have gotten rid of my smokers cough, I feel better, taste more, am in better shape and have lost over 15 pounds. Yes that is right lost pounds! I quit to save my health so I am eating healthier also.
If you are still smoking, make a pledge to stop. I know it is tough, but it is worth it and I believe that the patch and gum might just be what you need to be successful – JW
NicodermCQ
What is a nicotine patch?
To some people, the toughest part of quitting is dealing with the nicotine cravings that come with it. One way to overcome the need for nicotine is to stop smoking but partially replace
the nicotine that you would have had from smoking. As your body adapts to having less, you will experience the urge to smoke less often. Eventually, you can completely stop supplying your body with nicotine. This is the idea behind Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).
Patches like NicoDerm CQ are just one form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy. They look like large adhesive bandages and stick onto the skin in the same way. The sticky side of the patch contains a layer of nicotine. While you wear the patch, nicotine passes through the skin into your blood. This delivers nicotine in a steady stream, helps reduce the nicotine cravings that come from quitting and making it easier for you to use your willpower to quit smoking.
Unlike other patches, NicoDerm CQ features Time Release SmartControl Technology so it acts fast and lasts long to help control your cravings and double your chances of quitting*. And since it’s a thin, clear patch, it’s easy to wear discreetly.
Nicorette Gum
How Nicorette® Gum Works
It is difficult when you’re quitting and all you can think about is your next
cigarette. Nicorette Gum® helps calm your withdrawal symptoms when you’re
trying to quit. That’s because, when you stop smoking, the sudden removal of
nicotine from your system lowers your dopamine levels, making you feel
moody and irritable.
Nicorette Gum provides a controlled amount of nicotine to your system at a slower, less intense pace than cigarettes and without the toxins in cigarette
smoke. It’s a temporary therapeutic aid that reduces withdrawal symptoms and helps you quit smoking.
Your body gradually adjusts to having less nicotine until you no longer need any. By helping to relieve cravings, Nicorette lets you focus on disrupting the patterns that link cigarettes to so many of your daily activities.
Tobacco Free Kids
Winning the Fight Against the World’s Leading Cause
of Preventable Death
The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is a leading force in the fight to reduce tobacco use and its deadly toll in the United States and around the world. Our vision: A future free of the death and disease caused by tobacco.
We work to save lives by advocating for public policies that prevent kids from smoking, help smokers quit and protect everyone from secondhand smoke.
How We Fight Tobacco
To achieve our mission, we:
Promote public policies proven to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke. These include higher tobacco taxes, comprehensive smoke-free laws, well-funded tobacco prevention and stop-smoking programs, and tough regulation of tobacco products and marketing.
Expose and counter tobacco industry efforts to market to children and mislead the public.
Strengthen tobacco control efforts in the United States and worldwide by providing support and information to our many partners.
Mobilize organizations and individuals to join the fight against tobacco.
Empower a tobacco-free generation by fostering youth leadership and activism.
Inform the public, policy makers and the media about tobacco’s devastating consequences and the effectiveness of the policies we support.
Saving Lives in the U.S. and Around the World
In the United States, we advocate at the national, state and local levels for the proven policies that reduce tobacco use and save lives.
Internationally, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids supports governments and non-governmental organizations in promoting and implementing these policies. We are a partner in the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use, which focuses on low- and middle-income countries where more than 80 percent of tobacco-related deaths will occur in the coming decades.
While we have made enormous progress in the United States, tobacco still kills more than 400,000 Americans every year. The worldwide death toll is at more than five million a year and climbing. With your support, we can win the fight against the world’s leading cause of preventable death.
Created in 1996, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that accepts no government or tobacco industry funding. We rely on contributions from individuals, philanthropic foundations, corporations and other non-profit organizations.

Legendary Classic Rock Historian and Disk Jockey “Uncle” Joe Benson about Legendary Music Engineer, Producer, Manager and Author Ken Scott and His Book Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust…
What a great night.. I got to hang out at The Grove outdoor mall next to the famed Los Angeles Farmers Market and the CBS Networks Studio to hear one of the most prolific classic rock interviewers of all time, Joe Benson.
I have grown up listening to Uncle Joe Benson and have enjoyed his radio show, interviews, his record guide, his specials like Off the Record and The Seventh Day, the 5 O’Clock funnies and before you could check out the Internet for new music, Local Licks.
Joe has this very distinctive low voice that is impossible to mistake and when I found out that there was a chance to interview him. I got excited. Especially when one legend interview another legend, Ken Scott.
I have had the pleasure of interviewing Ken on a few occasions and really love listening to his stories about the days he spent recording many of the classic rock hits we love today, as well as his thoughts on the industry and recording today.
Joe turned out to be one of the nicest guys and we got to chat for awhile after the interview and found out we are practically neighbors…. Very cool.
Thanks to the Blaine Group for inviting me and thanks to Joe for spending a minute with us. What a great night…. – JW

Yoplait greek 100 Yogurt
“New Greek 100 is everything you adore about Greek yogurt with 100 calories. It’s just one more way Yoplait helps you discover the SO good in everything.”
What is Greek Yogurt? It is usually a more dense yogurt with more butterfat and more protein.
Yoplait has cut the fat and doubled the protein (10 grams) to make this a 100 calorie great tasting alternative to traditional Greek Yogurt.
For more information and to check out the different flavors go to the:
Yoplait believes Goodness is better than badness. And SO goodness is better than just plain goodness.
Yoplait is striving for so goodness. In themselves, the yogurts they make and in the way they behave.
Ultimately, we’re focused on making so good yogurt, and here’s how we see it: you can eat something that tastes amazing but isn’t that good for you. You can eat stuff that’s really good for you, but doesn’t always leave you yummed up. So good yogurt does both. All of you is happy, not just your tongue. And while so goodness will never be perfect, we’ll keep working on ways to make our yogurt more so good than it is today.
We also support causes that you care about. Like fighting breast cancer. We’re thinking we should do this in an even bigger way. We’re figuring that out and want your input.
People say life is really about the little moments of so goodness. There are big moments – we all know what those are – but since they don’t happen as often, we’ll stay focused on doing our part with the little moments. – Yoplait

DreamCenter
Pastor Matthew Barnett assumed the pastorate of Bethel Temple in 1994 at the age of twenty. After a life-changing encounter with God, he helped Bethel Temple transition from a traditional-style church to a servant driven ministry that grew into what is now known as The Dream Center.
Compelled by a vision to impact all of Los Angeles by addressing people’s physical and spiritual needs in unique and practical ways, The Dream Center has grown into a phenomenon that now reaches more than 40,000 people each week through its multiple church services and various need-centered outreach ministries.
Pastor Matthew is also the senior pastor of the historic Angelus Temple, which combined forces with The Dream Center in 2001 in a historic unification of flagship ministries from two different denominations (Foursquare and Assemblies of God).
The mission is to directly impact the issues that afflict Los Angeles communities by reconnecting isolated people to God and a community of support by providing free human services that address immediate and long-term needs in the areas of homelessness, hunger relief, medical care, mental health and education.
The vision is a community of resilient people whose lives have been redeemed by God’s love, who share that love with others to transform and restore broken lives to wholeness.
The DreamCenter Center
The Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart founded Queen of Angels Hospital in 1926. Father Wilhelm Berger, founder of the Franciscan Sisters, defined their ministries as ‘works of neighborly love’. With the establishment of the hospital, the sisters accepted the challenge to serve the poor, the sick, and the aging of Los Angeles for more than a half-century before closing their doors due to financial issues.
The growth of Los Angeles’ population throughout the mid-1920’s and into the 1940’s was directly reflected in the steady rise in admissions, births and patient day care at the hospital. This warranted major expansion projects to the facility in 1938 and 1945. The expanded 360,000 square foot campus now housed nine buildings and covered over eight acres. The distinction as the largest teaching hospital west of the Mississippi soon followed.
Despite enduring The Great Depression and World War II, the healing center fell victim to financial troubles in the early 1980′s, forcing a merger with neighboring Hollywood Clara Barton Memorial Hospital. The newer medical facility, located just three miles away, was renamed Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in 1989, at which time the fabled Queen of Angels Hospital in Echo Park closed its doors.
The site was mostly vacant but for a handful of loyal Franciscan Sisters that undertook caretaking duties. The property was also a popular location for commercial, film, music video and television productions.
The owner of the facility rejected lucrative offers from major entertainment companies in favor of Pastors Tommy and Matthew Barnett’s vision to convert the facility into a ‘spiritual healing center’, but the $10 million dollar asking price was still out of their range. Prayer and negotiations brought the asking price down to $3.9 million dollars and ‘The Church That Never Sleeps’ established its new home in 1996.

If you haven’t already noticed, ‘Leadership’ has become just another one of those pseudo-pop-psycho-cultural buzzwords.
Over time, its meaning has been diluted to such a profound degree, that it’s just another one of those labels we use when we really mean ‘The one with the big office.’
True leadership doesn’t come from a snappy vocabulary, the books you have on your shelf, your place on the organization chart, or any other fabrication.
Leadership is intensely personal, intrinsically scary, and it requires us to live up to and beyond the point of fear—every single day. – Steve Farber
Extreme Leadership Summit
Steve and his team have crafted The Extreme Leadership Summit to be something unique, something special, something…well…extreme. And it’s unlike any leadership or personal development “event” you’ve been to before.
The Summit is not a pitch fest (where a bunch of speakers try to sell you stuff), and it’s not a parade of talking heads, to mix a metaphor, where you passively sit, watch the show, take notes, and go home.
This is an experience, a process.
Informed by our brilliant thought-leader-speaker-coaches and with the help of your fellow participants (in small, focused MasterMind Teams), you’ll build a significant, personal Extreme Leadership Action Plan–a plan that you’ll begin applying to your life and business immediately, before The Summit even ends.
And–unlike other events–the vast majority of our speakers will be attending the entire conference. With you. We’re all in this thing together.

Leading from experience.
In 1989, after having run his own financial services company, Farber devoted his professional life to the field of leadership development and has been at it ever since.
Steve was director of service programs at TMI, an international training consultancy, and then worked for 6 years as Vice President and Official Mouthpiece (that’s what it said on his business card) of The Tom Peters Company where he met several of his mentors including author/gurus Tom Peters, Jim Kouzes, and Terry Pearce.
In 2000, Farber established his own company, Extreme Leadership, Inc, where he is president and CEO. Greater Than Yourself
Too many people assume the timeless principles of true leadership—of helping others achieve their full potential—don’t apply Monday through Friday during work hours or in any circumstance where a paycheck is involved.
In GREATER THAN YOURSELF, Steve Farber proves them wrong: in this powerful and inspiring story, Farber shows that the goal of a genuine leader is to help others—teammates, employees, and colleagues—become more capable, confident, and accomplished than they are themselves. Through the actions of a forward-thinking and extraordinarily successful CEO, Farber reveals the three keys to achieving this: Expand Yourself, Give Yourself, and Replicate Yourself.
Filled with actionable principles and innovative ideas, GREATER THAN YOURSELF is perhaps the most powerful message today’s business leaders can learn.
Louis Koster, MD lead an amazing life as a doctor without borders and talks about how to be happy no matter what your circumstances
Dr. Louis Koster grew up with a bad stutter and he turned his life around more than once by changing the language of his life.
Dr. Louis Koster was introduced to me by my good friend Starley Murray of www.StarleyMurrayLive.com. Starley was working with Dr. Koster and she new his incredible story is just the sort of thing I love to share.
Dr. Koster did not disappoint. His story was so wonderfully interesting. He started out with a horrific stutter which he worked hard to overcome. He became a doctor, but did not like being one where he was at so he moved to Spain to learn how to become a Flamingo dancer! Dr. Koster, finally took a position with Doctors without Borders.
Both the horror and the deep love he witnessed helped Dr. Koster to learn the secret of being happy no matter what your circumstances so he wrote a book based on his findings and it was just released October 1st.
I want to thank Louis and I call him Louis here because although I highly respect his title and the work he has done, I want to acknowledge his human authentic presence that you cannot help but get from being around this wonderful man.
Thank you for sitting down with me Louis and sharing. I know that you had not done many interviews before I threw you in front of my camera. You were real and giving in your storytelling and it is evident that you truly want to help others – JW

Wouter Kellerman may not be a name you have heard of, but if you like great music you should.
Wouter Kellerman two time winner of the South African Music Awards (SAMA) including 2010 best instrumental DVD Jazz/Classical/Pop. The SAMA is their equivalent of our Grammy Award.
Wouter’s music has so many flavors, but is all wonderful, from slowly haunting tunes, African beats, Island grooves, Irish Marches and even urban rapping…
I had to drive Los Angeles traffic after hearing one tune by Wouter (pronounced Voter). I like music so I was happy to cover a musician, but was I in for a surprise. The venue was the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, CA. Very small and very Hollywood.
The concert was very intimate and Wouter was way too big for that room. His band tore up the stage. It started slow and he just kept it growing and growing and I was taken back to Ian Anderson, John Mayal scatting, and more and more..
Wouter and his band hung out afterwords and I got a chance to meet with them. If I was on the road with a band.. These would be the people I would choose. Nice, easy and talented. Thank you Wouter for taking the time to interview with me as I know you had another appointment to get to… . – JW

Wouter Kellerman
Wouter Kellerman’s new album ‘Two Voices’ won the 2011 SAMA (South African Music Award, the SA equivalent of the Grammy) for ‘Best Instrumental Album’, and reinforces his status as one of South Africa’s foremost flautists. A true crossover artist, he thrives on experimenting with the shades, textures and colours that his magic flute is capable of painting, and creatively blending this with other instrumentation and vocal sounds.
The SAMA-winning flute wizard, who performed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Closing Ceremony to a global television audience of 700-million people, has spent the past couple of years cooking up several potent compositions with an array of top South African and African artists – and ‘Two Voices’ is the result.
His debut album, ‘Colour’, enjoyed rave reviews, topped the charts and was nominated for a 2008 South African Music Awards for ‘Best Instrumental Album’.
His show ‘Kellerman Colour Live’ won the 2010 SAMA (South African Music Award) for ‘Best Jazz/Instrumental/Popular Classical DVD’.
Kellerman demonstrates in his shows why he is regarded as one of the country’s most musically adventurous world-music proponents, who keeps his sound fresh and progressive by incorporating a fusion of influences and styles into his music with vocalists, instrumentalists and dancers to create a fresh and exhilarating performance. He has been travelling extensively over the last two years, performing all over the world in places like Berlin, Shanghai, New York and Sydney.
2010 highlights include performing at the opening of MIDEM in Cannes, France. MIDEM is the world’s biggest music conference and festival and Kellerman was part of a Department of Arts and Culture delegation, representing South Africa. In March he travelled to the USA to perform at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin, in Texas. SXSW is the biggest music festival in the USA.
In July Kellerman performed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Closing Ceremony. Concerts in the last few months included performing at the 2010 Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival in Johannesburg and two performances at the Shanghai World Expo 2010, China.
Wouter’s flute-playing can be heard on the soundtrack of the Emmy Award-winning film ‘Eye of the Leopard’. His albums ‘Colour’ and ‘Two Voices’ were mixed in Los Angeles by Grammy-winning engineer Husky Hoskulds.
Passionate about teaching and empowering young people, Kellerman has sponsored the living expenses of 10 children in the SOS Children’s Village in Ennerdale for the past 14 years, and has also financed the building of a house in the SOS Children’s Village in Rustenburg. For his continued efforts in helping give these children a better life, Kellerman was nominated by the SOS Children’s Villages for the Inyathelo Special Recognition Award for Philanthropy. He continues to facilitate the teaching of young dance and music students.
Wouter Kellerman started playing the flute at the age of 10, and in 1981 appeared as a soloist with the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra. He went on to feature in several South African orchestras, scooping musical accolades along the way. Among these was winning the Perrenoud Foundation Prize during the 1997 Vienna International Music Competition.
Using his classical training as a foundation, Kellerman focused his attention on world music, exploring the versatility of the instrument and fusing classical and contemporary sounds, resulting in a potent and thrilling musical encounter. Kellerman is taking his crossover world music to a global audience, having gained a solid following in South Africa. He has already released the album in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and most recently in Australia, where he combined his release with a nationwide tour, which included a support slot on Johnny Clegg’s Down Under tour.

South Africa’s premier flautist Kellerman (aka Wouter Kellerman) brings us his long awaited debut album, ‘Colour’. From the very first note this is one of those CDs that you just know will be glued to your CD player for months to come. Relaxing, fun, soulful and joyful throughout ‘Colour’ is destined to be a timeless classic.
You can tell that one of Kellerman’s passions, apart from music, is for the vibrant and diverse cultures that cover our world. Throughout the album he joyfully explores his own South African heritage (and Akrikaans roots in the final track ‘Al Le Die Berge’), as well as delving into the rich and passionate world of the Argentinean Tango, whilst Spanish and Irish themes also abound.
Highlight tracks include the beautifully seductive and sultry tango ‘Vuelvo al Sur’ which just oozes with South American passion, ‘Told U So’ a lively and cheeky South African number and ‘Quisas, quisas, quisas’ the Lila Downs song made popular by the film Tortilla Soup. Having chosen those tracks I do have to say that every time I listen to ‘Colour’ I keep changing my mind about my favourites, the CD is just that good with tracks appropriate for all times and moods.
SOS Children’s Village
What They Do
At SOS Children’s Villages we believe that children can only develop to their full potential if they have a supportive and protective family environment. We work to make this a reality.
At the centre of our SOS Children’s Villages programme is the individual child. We encourage children to actively take part in the making of decisions that affect their lives.
Preventing crisis leading to family separation
We work with disadvantaged families in order to prevent crises that can lead to family separation. We offer various forms of support to strengthen and stabilise families as much as possible so that children can grow up in their own families. The aim is always to build the skills and capacities of carers and of their communities so that children can enjoy positive and caring relationships.
Strengthening SOS families and foster families
We also strengthen SOS families and foster families, which provide stable and consistent care to children who cannot remain in their family of origin, and for whom family-based care is considered the best option. Short-term solutions may be offered in crisis situations.
Whether located all together or dispersed within a community, SOS families provide individualised care and promote the development, education and health of each child. We work together with communities to develop and improve local education and health infrastructure. In some cases SOS Children’s Villages runs kindergartens, day-care centres, schools and vocational training centres, as well as medical centres.
A leading voice for children
Building on our experience, we are also a leading voice for children who have lost their parent or whose parents cannot care for them. We aim to make a change that will improve the lives and living conditions of all these children, their families and their communities.
SOS Children’s Villages is active in 133 countries and territories. The variety of this international work is brought together by the umbrella organisation SOS Children’s Villages International, which unites all of the autonomous national associations.
In all countries where SOS Children’s Villages operates, the aim is to form a national association which is its own legal entity, with its own statutes and Board of Directors. Common for all of them is membership of the international umbrella association and the fact that their Board of Directors work on an honorary basis. Each member association is obliged to comply with the international statute of the organisation. Practices in relation to education, child-care, financ and administration are also common to all member associations.
Each national association is registered and organised as a foundation, trust, association, non-profit company or society. As a full member of SOS Children’s Villages International, they have the right to apply for funding through the umbrella association and request services from the General Secretariat.

The Surfrider Foundation
MISSION
A little over 25 years ago three people in Malibu, California found out that their favorite wave was about to be destroyed. Think about that for a second.
Think about something you love… something that gives you enjoyment. Taken away.
First Point, pictured to the right, the quintessential perfect California wave was about to be destroyed. Those three people organized and worked with the local municipalities until they were satisfied that their efforts to preserve that iconic wave would be successful.
This was the genesis of Surfrider Foundation.
Today, we are doing this same thing in about 18 countries around the world.
Our mission is the protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network.
You can think about that as three concepts. “Protection and enjoyment”, we don’t want to put a velvet rope around a beach and tell people to keep off. We’re surfers, we’re beach goers, we’re watermen… we enjoy the coasts. We’re a user group. Next up is “oceans, waves and beaches.” Think coastlines, we’re engaged with environmental issues that affect our coastlines. “Powerful activist network” speaks to how we go about this mission. We are a grassroots organization. We’re local in many coastal regions.
We’re moms, we’re surfers, we’re kids and teens… we’re you. We’re engaged to protect what we love: oceans, waves and beaches.

What a wonderful night it was in downtown Los Angeles. The weather was perfect at LA Live and huge crowds of people from the LMFAO concert and the incredible E-3 convention were all walking around the various restaurants and shops.
I was invited to watch music studio engineer and producer Ken Scott who co-produced and engineered 4 of David Bowie’s albums and also helped engineer the sound for the David Bowie movie, answer questions about David, the album and the movie after a showing of the movie in the Grammy Museum, Clive Davis Theatre.
It was so awesome sitting in the green room where I set up the camera as Scott Goldman, Ken Scott and Bobby Owsinski sat and talked all about the backstage stuff.. Ever hear of being a fly on the wall? The pianist from the movie Mike Garson came in all of them talking made for one “Once in a Lifetime Experience”.
The movie is, of course, dated compared to what you see today, but it was excellently done with tons of backstage footage and dialog to really give you the feel of the whole experience.
Ken, Scott and Bobby were wonderful and gave great interviews. I would like to thank Devon Blaine of the Blaine Group and the guys for a wonderful evening. – JW
Bowie had taken the stage persona of Ziggy Stardust, a science fiction based, theatrical, enigmatic, androgynous character and produced two albums during this period.
The evening of July 3 was the last show in the English concert tour promoting Bowie’s 1973 album Aladdin Sane and the 60th gig in a tour of Britain that started on May 12, though an American tour was already being booked for the autumn.
Very few in Bowie’s entourage knew of his decision to drop the Ziggy persona and cancel performing for a while; in the band only Mick Ronson had been told a few days before the final night.
At the end of the evening, aptly just before the song “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide“, Bowie announced that, Not only is this the last show of the tour, but it’s the last show that we’ll ever do. The phrasing was deliberately ambiguous, but most of the audience and many London newspapers and magazines took it to mean that Bowie was retiring from music. In fact, he had killed off his Ziggy persona but not his music career.
Recording
Pennebaker had been asked to come to London and film just a few songs but when he saw the first of the two London shows he realized that “there was a full-length film here asking to be made”.
Though he had only scant knowledge of Bowie’s music, apart from Space Oddity, he was impressed by the star’s onstage charisma and the range of his songs and quickly prepared to shoot the entire second gig, without knowing that it would include a dramatic final coup.[1]
Jeff Beck participated on three songs (two of them forming a medley) midway through the concert but was edited out from the final cut at his own wish.[2] The expanded version of “The Width of a Circle” was shortened by a few minutes for the soundtrack on vinyl and CD.
Cast
David Bowie – Himself / “Ziggy Stardust” (lead vocals, guitar, mouth harp)
Ken Scott and Roy Thomas Baker engineered the recording of the concert
The original film, soundtrack album and DVD was mixed by Tony Visconti.
Release
The film was shown a few times at festivals in late 1973 and provoked strong interest and favorable reactions, but then disappeared from view until 1983, when it was released on home video accompanied by a soundtrack double album.
Evidently it became a casualty first of Bowie’s rapid image changes which left Ziggy and glam rock behind and then of the rupture between Bowie and MainMan in early 1975; after that point Bowie was reluctant to release or promote any new recordings dating from before Young Americans as he would have to give half the income from any such recordings to MainMan up to the end of 1982.
Only in recent years has the film become available for regular cinema presentations; for many years it was a home video exclusive.
Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust: The Talk With Producer Ken Scott
Co-author of Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust, Ken Scott will discuss his time with The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, and a who’s who of classic rock acts.
From behind-the-scenes stories to some never-before-heard breakdowns of some classic songs, the evening will be both entertaining and informative.
Having worked with worked classic rock acts including Elton John, Pink Floyd, Procol Harum, Jeff Beck, Duran Duran, Harry Nilsson, the Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, America, Devo, Kansas, and many more, Scott has also played a big part in the world of jazz, being the first to integrate a more powerful rock sound into the genre.
Hear Ken Scott talk about the making of the Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust, as well as his prolific career. After the talk, Scott usually takes questions from the audience and will sign copies of his book.
Ken Scott is releasing his first book co-written with Bobby Owsinski, Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust for the 50th Anniversary of the Abbey Roads recordings with The Beatles and the 40th Anniversary of Ziggy Stardust.
Ken Scott holds a unique place in music history as one of only five engineers to have recorded The Beatles, but his experiences as a producer may be just as profound. Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust shares the intimate memories of Ken Scott s days working with some of the most important artists of the 20th century while crafting a sound that has influenced several generations of music makers.

I heard that Steve was doing this Extreme Leadership Summit and I said, Sign Me Up!
I met Steve Farber through Liz Strauss and Liz said “JW you need to interview Steve…” Well when Liz tells me to do something, I listen. She is one smart lady and she never says anything just to hear herself talk.
I had not read Steve’s book at that point and so the interview was from the view of… “o what’s your book about Steve?”
I was intrigued by what Steve was saying and after reading his book I get it. Extreme Leadership is more than being able to tell a couple people what to do and order some people around… it is about Stoking Your Business, Amping Your Life and Changing the World.
Marianne Wiliamson said “Your playing small does not serve the world” and this is your chance to network, meet and play full on with people that will change your life.
Steve Thank You for putting this together, thank you for your time and thank you for wanting to share at a deeper level. – JW
What is Extreme Leadership?
If you haven’t already noticed, ‘Leadership’ has become just another one of those pseudo-pop-psycho-cultural buzzwords.
Over time, its meaning has been diluted to such a profound degree, that it’s just another one of those labels we use when we really mean ‘The one with the big office.’
True leadership doesn’t come from a snappy vocabulary, the books you have on your shelf, your place on the organization chart, or any other fabrication.
Leadership is intensely personal, intrinsically scary, and it requires us to live up to and beyond the point of fear—every single day. – Steve Farber
Extreme Leadership Summit 2012
We’ve crafted The Extreme Leadership Summit to be something unique, something special, something…well…extreme.

Steve Farber leaps again. I was into it the first time. This time, I’m leaping with him!” –Chris Brogan, President Human Business Works
Keynote Speaker
Leadership speaker and author, Steve Farber, has worked with a wide variety of public and private organizations in virtually every arena, from the tech sector to financial services, manufacturing, health care, hospitality, entertainment, retail, government agencies and more.
And whatever the audience, Steve’s speeches are always deeply thought-provoking and eminently practical, as well as inspiring and entertaining—a combination of qualities that are a must for any successful conference or meeting.
These are just a few of the great programs Steve presents to different organizations.…
The Radical Leap
Extreme Leadership at Work and Beyond
Based on the book named as one of The 100 Best Business Books of All Time
In this chaotic and extreme age, business leaders must demonstrate an unprecedented level of passion, determination, foresight, dedication, and fearlessness. In this wildly popular speech, leadership speaker, Steve Farber, shows you how to use the LEAP framework – Love, Energy, Audacity and Proof to radically improve your organization and your life.
Greater Than Yourself
3 Steps to Attaining the New Gold Standard of Leadership
The truly great leaders in life and work become so by causing others to be greater than themselves. In this program—based on his new book, Greater Than Yourself—leadership speaker, Steve Farber, shows that dedicating yourself to bringing others along so that they can achieve more than you is the ultimate way to boost talent, ramp productivity and create truly significant current and future leaders.
Radical Accountability
Making the Leap From Individual Contributor to Extreme Leader
Whatever the challenge at your company—improving customer service, coping with change, inspiring transformation, improving corporate culture, recruiting and retaining great talent, building teamwork, fostering innovation—it all comes down to this: someone has to do something significant and enlist others to help. Someone, in other words, has to take accountability. Someone has to lead. And it doesn’t have to be the boss. Leadership, ultimately, has nothing to do with the title on your business card or your position on the organizational chart. It’s about who you are and what you do to change things for the better—regardless of your “place” in the company.

The Art of Elysium
MISSION
The Art of Elysium, a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization founded in 1997, encourages working actors, artists and musicians to voluntarily dedicate their time and talent to children who are battling serious medical conditions. We provide artistic workshops in the following disciplines: acting, art, comedy, fashion, music, radio, songwriting and creative writing.
VISION
The Art of Elysium is dedicated to enriching the lives of artists and critically ill children. We believe that there is a powerful and mutual exchange of hope and appreciation that occurs when artists share their time and talent with children battling serious medical conditions.
The lives of these children are largely filled with suffering, loneliness, fear and regimen. Artists have the unique ability to help children in need find a creative
voice and discover a sense of individuality and self-efficacy, even in the midst of overwhelmingly difficult circumstances.
In return, those same artists, who have been taken outside of their normal scope of work, are stretched and enriched in ways they never imagined.
Through this inimitable exchange between artist and child, the artist experiences the power of giving and the child experiences the power of their own artistic journey.
GOALS
• Create The Art of Elysium Center, a place where children can learn and artists can showcase their work. During the day, the center will be open for children in need to be taught acting, art processes, comedy and music. In the evening, the facility will be used for participating artists to present their creative work.
• Provide musical instruments, compact discs, videotape, art supplies and makeup for various pediatric facilities we serve.
• Fulfill special requests for medically challenged youth, including but not limited to providing individual, continuing lessons in the arts after discharge from the hospital.
• Now that The Art of Elysium has opened in New York, further expansion into additional cities such as Memphis and/or Nashville.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, JENNIFER HOWELL landed in Los Angeles shortly after graduating Emerson College with a B.S. in Mass Communications/Film Focus. It was Jennifer’s love for film making that brought her to Hollywood but it was her deeper love for children that led her to her mission: The Art Of Elysium.
In the middle of December 1996, Jennifer’s close friend, Stephen Hatten, was in the midst of one his worst bouts with the Leukemia he’d been diagnosed with years earlier.
Stephen shared with Jennifer the story of a young boy he had recently met at a treatment center.
A young boy who was by himself for the majority of his time spent there, on his own because both of his parents had jobs that they could not abandon.
Although one could interpret Stephen’s story as well, just a story, Jennifer heard his message loud and clear. And the message Jennifer heard was this: No child should ever be alone during treatment.
And so it was. Jennifer started by gathering some friends, getting clearance from the children’s hospital and bringing her world into their world.
With her Southern lilt and a spirit that was and is boundless, Jennifer and her friends brought the kids a respite from their reality, a little bit of laughter and a smile that found its form more quickly each time.
Jennifer’s friend Stephen passed away in 1998, but his story turned message turned mission has caught on. Along with her team, Jennifer’s The Art of Elysium continues to bring singers, artists, actors and writers into children’s hospitals and pediatric care facilities where they bring their talents, and of course their hearts, to the kids.
What was once Jennifer and a few friends is now a community of people who share the idea that no child should go through medical treatment alone.

Child Help
The story of Childhelp is about two young Hollywood actresses’ “chance” encounters—one with 11 homeless orphans abroad, and one with Nancy Reagan—and how they led to a lifelong commitment to helping children in need.
The Childhelp Story
Yvonne (left) and Sara – 1959
The Beginning of a Lifetime Commitment to Children…
Eleven half-American, half-Japanese orphans wandering homeless in Tokyo following a typhoon sparked a mission that has spanned internationally for nearly 50 years and impacted the lives of millions of children.
Hollywood actresses Sara Buckner (O’Meara) and Yvonne Lime (Fedderson) first met on the set of The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, when they played the girlfriends of Ricky and David Nelson. Their mission for children began in 1959 when they were sent on a government-sponsored goodwill tour to visit troops in Japan. Read More………
Child Abuse in America
Children are suffering from a hidden epidemic of child abuse and neglect. Every year 3.3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving 6 million children; that’s because reports can include multiple children. The United States has the worst record in the industrialized nation – losing five children every day due to abuse-related deaths.
Although there are many formal and acceptable definitions of child abuse, the following is offered as a guide for information on child abuse and neglect.
Child abuse consists of any act of commission or omission that endangers or impairs a child’s physical or emotional health and development. Child abuse includes any damage done to a child which cannot be reasonably explained and which is often represented by an injury or series of injuries appearing to be non-accidental in nature.
Forms of Child Abuse
Physical abuse
Any non-accidental injury to a child. This includes hitting, kicking, slapping, shaking, burning, pinching, hair pulling, biting, choking, throwing, shoving, whipping, and paddling.
Sexual abuse
Any sexual act between an adult and child. This includes fondling, penetration, intercourse, exploitation, pornography, exhibitionism, child prostitution, group sex, oral sex, or forced observation of sexual acts.
Neglect
Failure to provide for a child’s physical needs. This includes lack of supervision, inappropriate housing or shelter, inadequate provision of food and water, inappropriate clothing for season or weather, abandonment, denial of medical care and inadequate hygiene.
Emotional abuse
Any attitude or behavior which interferes with a child’s mental health or social development. This includes yelling, screaming, name-calling, shaming, negative comparisons to others, telling them they are “bad, no good, worthless” or “a mistake.” It also includes the failure to provide the affection and support necessary for the development of a child’s emotional, social, physical and intellectual well-being. This includes ignoring, lack of appropriate physical affection (hugs), not saying “I love you,” withdrawal of attention, lack of praise and lack of positive reinforcement.
What do I do if I think someone is abusing a child?
If a child discloses that he or she has been abused by someone, it is important that you LISTEN to them most of all.
Ask ONLY four questions
What happened?
Who did this to you?
Where were you when this happened?
When did this happen?
Asking any additional questions may contaminate a case!
DO NOT
Investigate
Ask leading questions (a question that suggests the answer or contains the information the questioner is looking for – That man touched you, didn’t he?)
Make promises
Notify the parents or the caretaker
DO
Provide a safe environment (be comforting, welcoming, and a good listener)
Tell the child it was not his/her fault
Listen carefully
Document the child’s exact quotes
Be supportive, not judgmental
Know your limits
Tell the truth
If you suspect abuse, but a child has not disclosed to you, call 1-800-4-A-CHILD. Or counselors can talk through the situation with you and help decide what the best course of action is.

JK Simmons of The Closer and Spiderman Supports Kids with Cancer through Sunshine Kids
I caught JK Simmons of The Closer and Spiderman at the GBK Academy Awards Gifting Suite while he was out supporting the many vendors and non-profits the the event.
JK talked to us about the Sunshine Kids. A charity that puts together all kinds of great trips and adventures for kids suffering with cancer.
JK Simmons may be one of the most versatile actors in the industry today as he has played so many diverse roles. It is always nice to interview someone with initials for a first name. Thanks JK. – JW
Simmons was a Broadway actor and singer. He was in the revival of Guys and Dolls as Benny Southstreet. In 1994 he sang multiple roles in the Wagner opera satire, DAS BARBECU.[3]
He also played J. Jonah Jameson in all three Spider-Man films and the expanded video game adaption of Spider-Man 3. Simmons provided his voice for two newspaper editors in two episodes of the eighteenth season of The Simpsons. The characters are never named, but are obviously meant to emulate the character of Jameson (one, bearing Jameson’s appearance, even demands “pictures of Spider-Man”, then on being reminded he works at a poetry journal, demands “poems about Spider-Man”).
The Sunshine Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer. Established in 1982, we are committed to providing positive group activities and emotional support for young cancer patients. The Sunshine Kids provides a variety of programs and events, free of charge, for kids who are receiving cancer treatments in hospitals across North America.
The Sunshine Kids Foundation adds quality of life to children with cancer by providing them with exciting, positive group activities, so they may once again do what kids are supposed to do . . . have fun and celebrate life!
We look forward to the day when The Sunshine Kids Foundation will no longer need to exist. Until that time, the entire Sunshine Kids family is dedicated to providing the most exciting activities, trips and events for as many young cancer patients as possible.

Author, Speaker, Leader, Mentor, Teacher and Student DC Cordova talks to us about her mentors and teachers and the proven business strategies
That are more important than ever in this new economy.
I have known DC Cordova for years. I should say I know of her.. She does not know me as well… We have worked in the same organization (HUB), we have mutual friends and have met on a few occasions.
The first time I spoke with her. She called me.. I was so surprised and honored that she had called me!? Wow… and then I found it that she had called me to tell me that her computer guy was freaking out.. I was in the middle of sending her a large data file and she had called me to ask me to stop sending the file to her office.
This was some time back and the file was so large that it almost shut down her company server… I apologized all the time embarrassed for my stupidity. I have an IT background and should have known that the file was too large…
All is well that ends well and today is a new day…
Have you ever met anyone you feel an instant affinity for? DC is one of those people. Nothing strange or mystical here. DC is just a very open and loving person so it is not hard to feel special around her.
I was so excited to finally get her to do a short interview with me.
D.C. personally studied with the famous inventor, futurist and author of over 30 books, Buckminster “Bucky” Fuller and was the great Marshall Thurber‘s business partner. After Marshall retired D.C. and Robert Kiyosaki continued to teach Money and You for some time, till Robert went on his own journey. This all makes DC a true treasure. DC Thank you for the time you spent with me and thoroughly look forward to speaking again soon. – JW

I met Kim at the first Enlightened Entrepreneur Summit. She is so fun and full of live and her husband / partner Vito is such a nice guy.
We had talked about doing an interview and I dropped the ball as I got busy with other projects and blah blah blah… Anyway, I saw Kim in the hall after her talk and she yelled JW as I yelled Kim! a big hug ensued and she came over to do the interview you see here.
Great to see you and to catch you on video Kim, but I really want her back to pic her brilliance about setting a company apart and breathing new life into them with strategic marketing and branding. Thanks Kim- JW

BrandU
A lot of people come to BrandU after they were diasppointed by the hope and the hyped-up promises of other programs, only to discover that they didn’t get what they needed— real steps and real support to create a business that expresses what they want to bring to the world and one they and their family can rely on for life.
Another thing that makes it so often challenging today to get real business-building support is the all the information available to us today. It can easily be confusing and overwhelming. It’s hard to distingush one thing from another and even more difficult to determine what the right next step for you is when there’s so many different approaches to take.
We’ve simplified that for you by breaking the stages of growth that every business goes through starting from the very beginning to keep you aware of where you are at every moment during your business adventure. You can find out more about these stages in Getting Out of Overwhelm.
Fortunately you’re here now, because with BrandU you’ll find support to build your business foundation solidy from the start—even if you’re bringing years of experience with you. We’ve spent over 6 years and nearly two million dollars developing our process-based results-driven programs along side entrepreneurs to make sure every step you take is tested and proven to deliver immediate, as well as long-lasting results that come from the power of extreme clarity.
In fact, across the board, that’s the comment we most often receive from people who have gone through our programs. That’s why we call it clarity all the way to the bank™. You can find out more in Success Stories.
What fuels these often very fast results is the step-by-step, Integral processes that are woven through and through every program. No more wasting time or money by guessing. You have at your fingertips a definitive path all laid out in front of you broken down into easy-to-follow steps. It’s real business made real simple for creative entrepreneurs. You can see how each of the three program in the Business Profit System breaks down in Programs at a Glance.
In addition to breaking down business into steps that anyone can follow, even if you’ve never been in business before, we’ve also invested hours upon hours to substantiate all BrandU programs by incorporating into each program the power of an age-old science. Once you start applying this illuminating science to your business, every step you take becomes a game—one you’ll actually enjoy playing. You can learn more about it in The Science Behind Us.
Another comment we hear repeatedly from entrepreneurs who experience our programs is how whole each step is—not only practical knowledge but also in how we deliver them. That’s because BrandU is an equal creation of both Kim Castle and W. Vito Montone. In addition to bringing our 25+ years of experience of working on both sides of brand creation, we also bring two very opposite approaches and vastly different skill sets to the table.
Kim brings her gift of emotional communication and what it takes to connect at the heart of customers and keep them engaged. You can discover more about Kim in The Insight of Kim Castle. Vito brings his left brain ability to structure and break anything down into easy-to-do accomplish-able steps as well as combining both holistic and liner forms into one whole experience. You can discover more about Vito in The Genius of Vito Montone.
We realize it’s a big deal to decide to bring in support and guidance to help you create the business of your dreams. Not just financially but also emotionally. There’s no more time to waste. In addition to our distinctly different approach to business creation is how we back up your results. That’s right, you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that you’ll be fully supported. You can find out more about our promise in Our Guarantee.
In addition to our support of you, we believe an integral part of every business is the component of connecting to bigger impact, that’s why we are proud to support a variety of organizations and movements by giving back. You can discover who we’re supporting now in Giving Back.
If you have a comment or a question that we haven’t addressed, please reach out to us and ask. That’s why BrandU was created. Simply click on Support and type away. An answer will be on its way to you shortly.
Most all we acknowledge you for being here and your willingness to step up and into your power as an entrepreneur. We’re honored at the opportunity to support you.
We hope you enjoy getting to know us. Then it will be our turn to get to know you!

Loral Langemeier talks about making money in your business every day
what are you selling and are you making money every day in your business.. You can..
I have been following Loral Langemeier for several years. I heard about her Live Out Loud Seminars and the famous Big Table, which is touted as being the most powerful, innovative, intimate and exclusive wealth building experience in the world!
If that is not intriguing I don’t know what is.. It always seems that everywhere I go Loral just left and although I have spoken to her office several times.. our schedules and paths were not crossing until the Enlightened Entrepreneur Summit. Maria Simone’s incredible 3 day immersion into planning, marketing, funding and networking.
I am glad I finally met Loral there as I really love Maria’s event. Thank you Maria for bringing us together and Loral for making sure you put some time aside, in the middle of your crazy busy schedule, to make this happen. – JW

Further, she will begin expanding reach beyond the Live Out Loud community through the Millionaire Maker Game for continuing education and wholesome family fun together.

She also supports the fight against environmental toxins, which can adversely effect the health and lives of everyone in the community. Through her foundation she also contributes and supports such organizations as The Girls and Boys Club of America and the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Foundation.
The strongest energy always wins. That’s it! That’s the key to moving from your current situation, any situation, into the life you’ve always wanted.
Yes! Energy presents the power of the “Energy Equation,” which you can employ to attract abundance to all areas of your life. This formula can help you lead your life to achieve financial freedom; center your actions around a spiritual core of certainty and confidence; up-shift your attitude into consistent optimism; commit to engage with others at the highest, most satisfying levels; create the enterprise you’ve always envisioned; and dust off your dreams.
Best-selling author and entrepreneurial speaker Loral Langemeier developed this simple and straightforward methodology, which is revealed explicitly in these pages, because she needed it herself. Knocked to her knees more than a few times on her true-grit journey from farm girl to multimillionaire, she knows what it’s like to hit obstacles hard. Yet despite the blows, she still stands, and she still delivers.
Learn how to tap into infinite, productive energy; extreme optimism; and calming, clarifying spirituality to improve your life in every way.

Don Miguel Ruiz speaks at the Enlightened Entrepreneur Summit and then takes a minute to discuss his bestselling book with us.
Don Miguel Ruiz – The Four Agreements + the 5th
I read The Four Agreements after first seeing them. Just the titles made sense and I wanted to know more.
Don Miguel had just flown in from Mexico and got to hang out in his room for a couple of hours before speaking in front of a packed room at the Enlightened Entrepreneur Summit in Anaheim, CA
After his talk he was surrounded for some time by fans and people that wanted to tell him what they thought or ask questions, get pictures get their books signed and on and on… I would be done.., but I walked up to Don and asked if he was up for an interview before he left. I barely got out the words when he came at me with a wonderfully loving inviting hug as if I was his best friend and he had been waiting in anticipation for me to arrive. I have been around many in the thought leader realm and this was different and wholly authentic and I have to admit it through me for a second.
I enjoyed it and arm and arm we walked to the place where I had set up the camera. The rest you will see here. Thank you for your time and your wonderful energy Don xo – JW
Don Miguel Ruiz
Don Miguel Ruiz was born into a family of healers, and raised in rural Mexico by a curandera (healer) mother and a nagual (shaman) grandfather.
The family anticipated that Miguel would embrace their centuries-old legacy of healing and teaching, and carry forward the esoteric Toltec knowledge. Instead, distracted by modern life, Miguel chose to attend medical school and become a surgeon.
A near-death experience changed his life. Stunned by this experience, he began an intensive practice of self-inquiry.
He devoted himself to the mastery of the ancient ancestral wisdom, studying earnestly with his mother, and completing an apprenticeship with a powerful shaman in the Mexican desert.
In the tradition of the Toltecs, a nagual guides an individual to personal freedom.
Don Miguel is a nagual from the Eagle Knight lineage, and is dedicated to sharing his knowledge of the teachings of the ancient Toltecs.
He is the author of The Four Agreements, The Mastery of Love, and The Four Agreements Companion Book. Website: www.MiguelRuiz.com
The Four Agreements
According to Don Miguel Ruiz, everything we do is based on agreements we have made — agreements with ourselves, with other people, with God, with life. But the most important agreements are the ones we make with ourselves.
In these agreements we tell ourselves who we are, how to behave, what is possible, what is impossible. One single agreement is not such a problem, but we have many agreements that come from fear, deplete our energy, and diminish our self-worth.
In The Four Agreements, Don Miguel reveals the source of self-limiting agreements that rob us of joy and create needless suffering.
When we are ready to change these agreements, there are four deceptively simple, yet powerful agreements that we can adopt as guiding principles.
Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, the Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love.
Agreement 1
Be impeccable with your word – Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
Agreement 2
Don’t take anything personally – Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
Agreement 3
Don’t make assumptions – Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
Agreement 4
Always do your best – Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.
There is one more agreement Don Ruiz wrote about that he believes you discover after realizing the first four.
Agreement 5
Question Everything. “Don’t believe me, don’t believe others, don’t believe yourself.” Eliminating belief systems are one of the core teachings of the Toltec Path. Whenever you have a belief, you no longer perceive what is.
Also if someone says they have the true and only answer.. run the other way. Take the knowledge from all that suits your path and be willing to change your opinion swiftly as the world goes from flat to round and Earth no longer is the center of the universe.

Memorial Day Day New Directions Color Guard Tribute to the Fallen Heroes at the 2nd Annual Walk for Warriors
New Directions Color Guard Memorial Day 2012
New Directions Color Guard
The New Directions Color Guard is manned by US Veterans that are in the recovery program at New Directions.
These men are an exceptional representational cross section of the men and women that are helped daily by New Directions.
These men all have different, yet similar tragic stories of how they struggled with drugs or mental issues after their military service.
They are proud to be vets and are working hard to get their lives together with the help of New Directions, family and the friends they meet there.
Since I used to watch my father march in the Air Force and I myself marched in the Navy, I have been a sucker for watching the color guard. It is one of a few regrets that I have that I was not part of a color guard myself.
I always get such a feeling of pride and reverence whenever I watch a color guard go through their paces. I especially get emotional with the New Directions Color Guard because I know these guys have struggled so hard to get here and that reminds me that there is hope that the thousands of lost vets can find help.
I appreciate the guys giving me a minute to talk with them and that they were so open about their struggles. Thank you New Directions Color Guard- JW
WEST LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 14, 2012) – The West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and New Directions, Inc. are proud to partner again to announce the 2nd Annual Memorial Day Walk for Warriors on May 28, 2012. Walk for Warriors is a family-friendly 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk to help transitioning veterans in Los Angeles.
Walk for Warriors will help provide assistance for veterans through transitional housing, job training and placement, counseling, adult basic education classes and family reunification services. In addition to the race, Walk for Warriors will feature an Expo booth fair with food and local businesses as well as a performance by the award-winning New Directions Veterans Choir, a singing group comprised of formerly homeless veterans.
Participants can register, form a team and fund-raise by visiting www.walkforwarriors.org. Early registration is $35, and is available until Thursday, May 17. Walk for Warriors is a partnership of New Directions, Inc. a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing comprehensive services to veterans in Los Angeles and the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.
“The West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce is always ready to step up and help those who have served our country and sacrificed for our Freedom,” said Chamber President Ron Adams. “I had so much fun last year. I was ecstatic when we partnered with New Directions again with hopes of helping more veterans. “
Last year, nearly 600 people took part in the Walk for Warriors run/walk. Teams got sponsors from California and all over the United States and beyond via www.walkforwarriors.org.
New Directions, a nonprofit transitional living program, has been helping the Los Angeles veteran community since 1992.
According to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), there are more than 8,000 homeless veterans on any given night in Los Angeles.
New Directions offers a wide variety of services including housing, substance abuse treatment, counseling, remedial education, job training and placement as well as family reunification and money management classes.
Why do we exist?
New Directions provides services, support and transitional housing to homeless veterans with co-occurring disorders. Essential services at New Directions’ five residential homes include drug and alcohol detoxification and rehabilitation, mental health treatment, food, clothing, shelter, job training, and help with finding permanent housing. This nonprofit agency is unique because it was founded by formerly homeless Vietnam veterans, and has developed an effective “veterans helping veterans” model.
As women and men head home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are more and increasingly diverse vets in need of help. New Directions’ individualized care and treatment methods enable the agency to provide comprehensive, holistic services to veterans of all ages and backgrounds – both seasoned veterans and a new generation just now returning from combat.
What have you accomplished?
From its founding in 1992, New Directions’ history has been filled with reclaimed lives, rediscovered futures and re-imagined possibilities for more than 30,000 veterans who have faithfully and generously served our country.
Each year, New Directions extends help to some 600 veterans through residential substance abuse treatment programs, job training and placement, health assessment and emergency shelter services and a permanent housing placement program. Since beginning operations in an 8-person home, New Directions has grown into a major national model for rehabilitating and housing homeless veterans. Now with 5 facilities, 229 beds, and new permanent, supportive housing in development, New Directions makes a difference in the lives of individual veterans, and on the landscape of homelessness in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles News Anchor Christine Devine joins New Directions and the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce to Host the 2nd Annual Walk for Warriors
Christine Devine talks to us about US Veteran Issues and How New Directions is Helping.
Christine Devine
This year’s event will be hosted by KTTV Fox 11 news anchor and local philanthropist Christine Devine. Christine
Devine is the recipient of 16 Emmys, including the Academy’s prestigious Governor’s Award, and one award specifically for a story on injured and disfigured veterans.
“I’m thrilled to be participating in Walk for Warriors,” Devine said. “With the unique set of challenges facing veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, this event will bring attention to the urgent need for supporting our vets as they transition home.”
I was very proud to cover the 1st Annual Walk for Warriors in 2011 so I jumped to cover the 2nd annual event.
Local business, media, Veterans and their families and supporters showed up to participate in an 5K walk and run to help bring awareness and needed funds to New Directions, which help get US Veteran homeless men and women, off the streets.
The more that help the homeless. New Directions takes care of all the needs of the veteran to help them get back on their feet and into the community with th knowledge that they have help and the support needed to quit or stay away from drugs and other intolerable situations. New Directions also helps them find work or at least can help them get ready for that all important interview.
I am so proud that we at On Purpose Magazine and US Veteran on LinkedIn get a chance to work with and help this wonderful organization in any way we can.
Thank you so much Greg and Brendan for your time and for putting on this great event. – JW

after his speech at the 2012 Gravity Summit UCLA Warren Sapp gave it up for the US Veterans
Warren Sapp seemed to have a lot of fun bustin my chops and messing with me, but he was the nicest guy and was up for whatever I needed when I interviewed him about his huge Twitter following.
When I asked him to give a shout out for the vets he was all over it and I thank Warren for his kindness and great sense of humor – JW
His 96.5 career sacks (100 counting the playoffs) are the second-highest career total sacks for a defensive tackle and the 28th highest overall for a defensive lineman. His 77 sacks with the Buccaneers is second in the team’s history.
In 2002, Sapp helped lead a resurgent Tampa Bay team to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII over the Oakland Raiders. Sapp had five tackles and two sacks during the 2002-2003 postseason, and was an instrumental staple in the league leading Buccaneers defense.
On the seventh season of Dancing With the Stars, Warren and Kym Johnson were runners up to the winner Brooke Burke who now co-hosts the show
