Palm Springs, CA… Peace In the Streets Global Film Festival has put out a call for submissions. Produced by CV Studios Entertainment, the event’s partners include UNICEF’s Voices of Youth, Foundation for Culture of Peace (Madrid), Clear Channel, Fathers inc., an initiative of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, GlobalKids, Womensphere, Impact Inc., and MTVAct.com.

The event is also supported by simplyME TV, Dish Network and the Riordan Foundation.

Youths compete by submitting a one to three-minute short (video) on how they would make peace in the streets at www.psgff.com or #psgff. With three age categories, eight and under, 9 to 13, and 14 to 18, all ages can find their niche. Deadline for entry is June 31, 2014. This competition is yearly so get in and find out more now.

Winners will be invited to an awards ceremony to be held on September 11 at the United Nations during the Culture of Peace Conference at the General Assembly. A gala honoring the winners and showing their films will be held that evening in the United Nations Delegates dining facilities.

“Films can be made on any device: phones, tablets, video cameras, etc. and will be judged on the story told, not necessarily on production values,” noted Carole Sumner Krechman, CEO of CV Studios Entertainment Productions.

Additionally, Carole is concurrently the Chairman, Founder and President of the Peacemaker Corps Association, a non-profit 501-(c)3 charity dedicated to teaching children around the world how to make Peace in the Streets. PCA is a United Nations NGO with ECOSOC status (www.Peacemakercorps.org). As a life-long activist/volunteer and former Chairman of the Board of Friends of the United Nations, with 25 years of volunteer service to the UN, she was honored for her years of philanthropy and innovation by receiving the 2008 Purpose Prize Fellowship.

Judges

Ambassador Anwarul Karim Chowdhury chairs a panel of impressive judges including: Analisa Leonor Balares, Kenneth Braswell, Sherry Lansing, Federico Mayor, Avi Poster, Voza Rivers, Nina Streich, and Catherine Warren. Others will be added in the near future.

Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury has devoted many years as an inspirational champion for sustainable peace and development and ardently advancing the cause of the global movement for the culture of peace that has energized civil society all over the world. As a career diplomat, Permanent Representative to United Nations, President of the UN Security Council, President of UNICEF Board, UN Under-Secretary-General, the Senior Special Advisor to the UN General Assembly President, and recipient of the U Thant Peace Award, UNESCO Gandhi Gold Medal for Culture of Peace, Spirit of the UN Award and University of Massachusetts Boston Chancellor’s Medal for Global Leadership for Peace, Ambassador Chowdhury has a wealth of experience in the critical issues of our time – peace, sustainable development, and human rights.

Analisa Leonor Balares is CEO & Founder of Womensphere, Chair of Womensphere Foundation, and a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader. Balares is dedicated to unleashing the potential of women and girls, and creating an inclusive and sustainable world. She is a community builder, social innovator, global entrepreneur, and mentor. For over two decades, she has been committed to women’s leadership development, sustainable development, entrepreneurship, innovation, and education, and has produced, directed, and co-produced over 100 summits, forums, and media on these themes.

During almost 30 years in the motion picture business, Sherry Lansing was involved in the production, marketing and distribution of more than 200 films, including Academy Award® winners Forrest Gump (1994), Braveheart (1995), and the highest grossing movie of all time, Titanic (1997).

With over 21 years of community development experience, Kenneth Braswell serves as the Executive Director of Fathers incorporated. At Fathers, Incorporated he focuses on the need to reaffirm the benefit of fathers within the family service paradigm. Since 2004 the agencies’ main focus has been on the development of support and services for fathers. FI, a not-for-profit organization, serves as a leader in the promotion of Responsible Fatherhood and Mentoring.

This international focus raises the awareness about, and combats the impact of father absence. Fathers Incorporated does this through the use of innovative social marketing and multi-media platforms, traditional communications, and product development.

Federico Mayor is the Executive Director of the Foundation for the Culture of Peace in Madrid. A member of Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Education and Science (1977-1978) he later became Adviser to the Prime Minister. After being Deputy Director-General of UNESCO from 1978 to 1981, he returned to the Organization as Special Adviser to the Director-General (1983-1984), whom he succeeded in 1987.

Avi Poster, an educational consultant with 34 years in education as a teacher and principal, Poster led his schools to three national recognition awards from the White House and the Department of Education. He is known for his expertise in teacher training, parent education, school and organization culture, differentiated instruction, and multiage/multiyear education as well as substance abuse and gang prevention and the development of character education programs.

Voza Rivers is an accomplished African-American theatre, music, film and events producer. He serves as Executive Producer of New Heritage Theatre Group, celebrating its 50th anniversary, and Chairman of the Harlem Arts Alliance, a cultural arts service organization of over 850 members. He has produced numerous film shorts, documentaries, and the Harlemwood Film Festival. A partial listing of Rivers’ films include the award winning “Hughes Dream Harlem,” “Sonia Sanchez: Shake Loose Memories,” “Percy Sutton: A Man for All Seasons,” ”Da Zone,” Drive By: A Love Story,” “The Black New Yorkers,” “Burning Sands,” The 95th Anniversary of the National Urban League, the 110th Anniversary of The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce, “Harlem Is Music,” “Harlem is Theater,” and “Harlem is Gospel” documentaries.

Nina Streich is Executive Director of the Orlando, Florida, based Global Peace Film Festival that she founded in 2003. She has an extensive background in both the film/TV/media industries and in the political arena. She has held senior management positions in other film festivals and produced social issue documentaries on subjects ranging from nuclear disarmament to women’s health. Streich served as Deputy Film Commissioner for the New York City Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting. Other positions have included New York Finance Director for the Democratic National Committee and Deputy Executive Director for the NYC Host Committee for the 1994 Grammy Awards. She is an accomplished events producer, organizing film premiers, music festivals, conferences, parades, street fairs and press conferences. She began her career as a film editor, cutting trailers and marketing material for over 50 major studio and independent features.

Founder and president of FanTrust Entertainment Strategies, Catherine Warren is a management consultant to the broadcast, distribution and digital media industries.

Her work has influenced Fortune 500 clients, producers, portals, and game corporations, providing them with new ways to captivate audiences, build revenues, secure financing and capitalize on innovation in the context of outstanding strategic plans.

Catherine’s client work includes strategic initiatives for major broadcasters and content producers/distributors such as Alliance Atlantis, the NFB, CBC and PBS/KCTS; content portals, including Bell Canada, Nokia and Orange Telecom France; computer corporations such as Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft; as well as game and animation studios, Radical/Vivendi and Decode Entertainment.

She has developed multi-year strategic plans for multi-billion dollar corporations, including BC Lotteries, and business partnerships for FanTrust clients with Google, CORUS, Miniclip, Bell and other industry giants as well as world-class audience strategies for television franchises such as CSI.
