Professor Ann Lee Talks About What U.S. Can Learn from China

Ann Lee ChinaAnn Lee, Senior Fellow at Demos Talks to Us About Opportunities and What the U.S. Can Learn From China

Professor Ann Lee teaches Economics and Finance at New York University and at Peking University as well as being a Senior Fellow at the famous Demos Think Tank.

I have to commend and thank Professor Ann Lee.

I double booked our appointment confusing PST and EST. My wife told me I would do this eventually.

I had my main phone line shut down so I had to do the interview on my cell phone while a Verizon tech fixed my main line and he wanted to give me progress reports all during this interview.

I know little about China compared to Ann so I had to edit out several very stupid questions.

All in all Ann was a trooper and stuck with me even though she had an appointment with CNN right after our call.

Ann please except my apologies for I know this was one of the rougher interviews you had to do this week. Also thank you for your brilliance and insight on these matters.

We are no longer headed towards becoming a global economy. We are well entrenched in it now.As a nation, we have to learn the truth about our world and other nations and open ourselves up to possibility.

We cannot, as a country, grow out of our current situation by coddling our uneducated, lack minded fear about the other guy. Instead we must take the risk to lean into our fears and embrace all the world had to offer and teach us. – JW

What The U.S. Can Learn From China

While America is still reeling from the 2008 financial crisis, a high unemployment rate, and a surge in government debt, China’s economy is the second largest in the world and many predict will surpass the U.S. by 2020.

President Obama called China’s rise “a Sputnik moment”—will America seize this moment or continue to treat China as its scapegoat?

Mainstream media and the U.S.government regularly target China as a threat. Rather than viewing China’s power, influence, and contributions to the global economy in a negative light, Ann Lee asks:

  • What can America learn from its competition?
  • Why did China suffer so little from the global economic meltdown?
  • What accounts for China’s extraordinary growth, despite one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world?
  • How does the Chinese political system avoid partisan rancor but achieve genuine public accountability?

From education to governance to foreign aid, Lee details the policies and practices that have made China a global power and then isolates the ways the U.S. can use China’s enduring principles to foster much-needed change at home.

This is no whitewash. Lee is fully aware of China’s shortcomings, particularly in the area of human rights, She has relatives who suffered during the Cultural Revolution. But by overemphasizing our differences with China, the U.S.stands to miss a vital opportunity.

Filled with sharp insights and thorough research, What the U.S. Can Learn from China is Lee’s rallying cry for a new approach at a time when learning from one another is the key to surviving and thriving.

Key points about the book:

  • Lays out what America can gain by studying China’s approach to politics, economics, finance, education, foreign policy and more
  • Author Ann Lee, a self-proclaimed “tiger mother for the U.S.economy,” has experience on both sides of the Pacific—she has taught in China and worked on Wall Street
  • Counters the trend of demonizing China by offering a rare nuanced view of how Chinese society actually works

Tom Sizemore was born in Detroit, Michigan. His mother, Judith (née Schannault), was a member of the city of Detroit ombudsman staff, and his father, Thomas Edward Sizemore, Sr., now retired, was a lawyer and philosophy professor.[2][3] His family has paternal Welsh and maternal French ancestry. He has three brothers, Charlie, Aaron and Paul, who is also an actor.[4] Sizemore attended Michigan State University for one year, as well as Wayne State University. He earned a Master’s degree in theatre from Temple University in 1986. He subsequently moved to New York City to pursue an acting career.

Acting career

One of Sizemore’s earliest film appearances occurred in Oliver Stone‘s Born on the Fourth of July in 1989, followed by roles in Lock Up (1989), Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man (1991), True Romance (1993), Natural Born Killers (1994), and Strange Days (1995). Sizemore also starred in the independent drama film Love Is Like That (1993) with actress and model Pamela Gidley. He had a supporting role in Kevin Costner’s Wyatt Earp as Bat Masterson.

A succession of well-received supporting parts followed, perhaps the most well known being his portrayal of Michael Cheritto as an armed robber in the heist film Heat (1995). His first major leading role was as Vincent D’Agosta in 1997’s The Relic. Sizemore had a recurring role on the television series China Beach (1988 to 1991) as an enlisted man named Vinnie who was in love with Dana Delany‘s character. Sizemore continued to play leading and character parts in many films, notably Devil in a Blue Dress (1995), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Bringing Out the Dead (1999), and Witness Protection (1999).

He had a voice part as Sonny Forelli in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. In 2001, Sizemore starred in Ticker, an action film directed by Albert Pyun, with Steven Seagal and Dennis Hopper. In 2002, Sizemore starred in the well-reviewed but short-lived television drama series Robbery Homicide Division. It was cancelled mid-way through its first season. He also played an undercover cop in the film Swindle opposite Sherilyn Fenn. In 2004, he starred in Paparazzi.

In 2006, he starred in The Genius Club, playing a terrorist who taunts seven geniuses into solving the world’s problems in one night. Also that year, he had a leading role in action/thriller film Splinter with Edward James Olmos. In 2007, the television network VH1 aired a six episode reality TV series called Shooting Sizemore, which depicted the life of the actor as he struggled to regain his career in the midst of a continuing battle with addiction. The series also covered an ongoing legal appeal on his conviction for an assault of former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss.[5] In this year, the actor also starred in the Indie drama film Oranges with Tom Arnold and Jill Hennessy, which was directed by Sirian director and producer Joseph Merhi.

Recently, Sizemore has worked in films that include Red and American Son, both of which were screened at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. In 2008, Sizemore starred in The Last Lullaby, playing a killer, and appeared also in The Flyboys with Stephen Baldwin, action film Stiletto with Tom Berenger and Michael Biehn, drama film Toxic with Costas Mandylor, and is the star in the Canadian drama A Broken Life with Ving Rhames.

He also appeared in an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Recently Tom has appeared in episodes of Hawaii Five-O.

Hollenbeck Youth Center

When riots tore through the East Los Angeles barrios in the 1970s, they reflected the despair and frustration of many young people in the area. Poverty, the lack of opportunity, and the need for respect and acceptance led many down the path of gangs and drugs.

A group of business people from the East Los Angeles community, however, wanted things to change for the better. They joined forces with the Hollenbeck Division LAPD to form the Hollenbeck Police Business Council, with a specific mission to help at-risk kids.Since incorporating in March 1972, the Hollenbeck Police Business Council and Hollenbeck Youth Center have remained committed to the primary goal of preventing violence by deterring kids from gang and criminal activities.

The Youth Center reaches thousands of children annually through innovative recreation, education and entrepreneur programs designed to decrease crime by instilling a strong sense of value and purpose in young people.

The Hollenbeck Youth Center was built in 1976 entirely from private contributions (15,000 sq. feet area). At that time, the officers of the Los Angeles Police Department directed the Center, giving their time as coaches and role models. But in 1978, Proposition 13 passed and funding for police staffing ceased suddenly, for years. The local businesses came together in hopes of finding a solution to re-open the facility, putting their resources together they raised enough funds to hire one individual.

In 1981, Daniel L. Hernandez was hired to lead the Center. Hernandez’s first initiative was to create a strong relationship with the community, which he did successfully.

Twenty-six years later, under the direction of Mr. Hernandez, the center has flourished into a nationally recognized organization. In 1998, under Hernandez’s direction, the Center completed a 15,000 square-foot addition, allowing it to house educational and counseling programs, as well as to provide essential office space for permanent and volunteer personnel.

Since its creation, Hollenbeck has bettered the lives of thousands of our children, many of which have gone on to become exceptional athletes, students, professionals and citizens. These inspired acts of commitment and dedication continues to live on as we serve today’s youth and work to better their future.

Peter Weller (Robo Cop) Talks to us about the importance of education for our nation.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDGyXajsQRs]

It was a great treat to see Peter at this event. I am a big fan of Robo Cop, Odyssey and Dexter.  I also hear Peter is up for a part in a new Star Trek Adventure? Very Nice….

When I saw Peter I said “Great to see your still alive… ” and Peter looked at me like I had just lost my mind. I was talking about him being killed on Dexter and I believe he thought I was talking about his real demise…

Sorry Peter, my wife told me I was not funny. Great interview, however and Peter tells it like it is about childhood education. It really is the cornerstone and key to this nations survival nationally and globally.

Thanks Peter. – JW

Peter WellerPeter Weller

From Wikipedia

Peter Frederick Weller (born June 24, 1947) is an American film and stage actor, director and lecturer.

He is best known for his roles as the title character in the first two RoboCop films and Buckaroo Banzai in the cult classic The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. He received an Academy Award nomination for his direction for the 1993 short Partners, in which he also acted. He also hosted the show Engineering an Empire on the History Channel. He played Stan Liddy in the 5th season of the Showtime original series Dexter.

Weller’s stage career began in the 1970s with appearances on Broadway in Full Circle, directed by Otto Preminger, and Summer Brave, William Inge‘s rewrite of his play Picnic. About this time, he became a member of the famed Actors Studio.[4]

On the set of Firstborn, Corey Haim‘s first day of shooting was with Weller, and he went up to compliment the older actor on his performance. Weller collared Haim, throwing him up against a wall viciously warning him not to speak to him after a take, and it took three assistants to separate them. Haim later admitted that he was terrified by the experience.[5]

He has appeared in more than 50 films and television series, including turns as the title characters in the cult classic The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, and blockbuster hits RoboCop and RoboCop 2.[6] He has also appeared in such critically acclaimed films as Woody Allen‘s Mighty Aphrodite, the Oliver Stone-produced The New Age and Naked Lunch. In a 1977 episode of the television series Lou Grant, he plays Oberster SA-Führer Donald Sterner/Stryker, a tragically disillusioned Jewish-American Neo-Nazi leader who later committed suicide off-screen with his Colt 45 near the end of the episode when his heritage was discovered.

In 1995, he appeared in Screamers, a science-fiction film based on the short story “Second Variety” by Philip K. Dick and directed by Christian Duguay. Duguay would later direct Weller in the 2005–2007 television series Engineering an Empire for the History Channel, which Weller hosted.

On television, he played the shuttle captain in the short-lived series Odyssey 5 and made guest appearances as Terran supremacist John Frederick Paxton in the Star Trek: Enterprise episodes “Demons“, “Terra Prime” and in Fringe as the character Alistair Peck.

Weller has also directed various projects for television, including episodes of Homicide: Life on the Street, Monk and three episodes of the aforementioned Odyssey 5. He directed a 1997 adaptation of Elmore Leonard‘s Gold Coast starring David Caruso and Marg Helgenberger after previously starring in a version of Leonard’s thriller Cat Chaser. He directed Episode 3 of Season 4, titled “Dorylus” (air date 9/20/11), of the series Sons of Anarchy.

Weller is a contributor to the History Channel in several productions, credited as “Peter Weller, Syracuse University“, where he is an adjunct faculty member. He is a graduate student in art history at UCLA, focusing on the Italian Renaissance. Weller also hosts the series Engineering an Empire for the network.

In 2005, Weller co-starred as the Captain in a made-for-television remake of The Poseidon Adventure.

In 2006, Weller joined the cast of 24 as terrorist collaborator Christopher Henderson.[7] Weller received a “cheer” in TV Guides “Cheers & Jeers” section for his performance. In December 2006, Weller starred as architect Frank Lloyd Wright at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre in Frank’s Home, a new play by Richard Nelson.

On January 15, 2010, Weller was seen in a teaser trailer for the companion documentary God of War: Unearthing the Legend that was featured in the game God of War III which Weller also hosted.[8]

On April 15, 2010, Weller guest-starred in an episode of the science fiction drama Fringe. Weller stars in a guest role on the Showtime original series Dexter.[9] Weller also had a guest appearance in the December 22, 2010 episode of Psych; where he played villain “Yin”[10]

GBK is one of the biggest and best; come and meet the guy that makes it all happen.

I have been covering gifting suites for a very short time, but have learned that they are a great way for companies with products 0r services to promote, get many celebrities to stand with their product, get pictures, press and incredible media exposure.

My first gifting suite was GBK and though I have done a few others now, I will fondly remember Gavin’s as my first.

Gavin is a gracious, warm and caring guy that puts on some of the best events in Hollywood. Check out www.GBKProductions.com and check out the events his company has produced. Very impressive.

The best part is that Gavin and GBK work hard to honor many wonderful non-profit causes at his events.

Dr. Urszula Kotlow of PCH on Getting Help for Children with Mood Disorders

Urszula Kotlow MDUrszula Kotlow, M.D. of Phoenix Children’s Hospital on Getting Help for Children with Serious Mood Disorders.

Urszula Kotlow, M.D.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital has provided hope, healing and the best healthcare for children and families since 1983.

Today, Phoenix Children’s is one of the ten largest children’s hospitals in the country and provides specialty and sub-specialty inpatient, outpatient, trauma, emergency and urgent care to children and families in Arizona and throughout the Southwest.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital, ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals, is Arizona’s only licensed children’s hospital, providing world-class care in more than 40 pediatric specialties to children from throughout the state and region.

Though Phoenix Children’s is one of the ten largest freestanding children’s hospitals in the country, it is in the midst of a major expansion to meet the needs of the Southwest’s rapid population growth.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital Website
Dr. Kotlow’s Profile

I received a message recently on Facebook from a concerned mother, who has been going through a personal hell, trying to help her kids through their serious mood disorder issues.

After her very young son confided to her that he did not want to live anymore and was contemplating suicide, she was lucky enough, with the help of Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH), to find help and programs that helped her kids, only to find out that the amount of time she was gone from worked cost her, her job and the cost of medications and care was more than she could afford and she is now losing her home.

Robin Miller got in touch with me to see if I could get the word out about mood disorders and she was told by her hospital that they were losing funding for the programs at the hospital.

Believe me she was starting to feel lost and alone. I told her if she could get the hospital staff on the line to explain the issues, that I would happily put out the word.

After hearing this story, I believe that you, as I did, with realize the importance of the work PCH is doing and you will find it important to dig down deep and help this wonderful facility continue to help families in need. PCH never turns a child away, but there is only so much the can do without the proper funds to keep these incredible programs running and fully staffed.

I would like to thank Phoenix Children’s Hospital for saying yes to the interview and for all their kind, gracious and wonderful help with getting the word out that PCH needs donations to continue research and the ability to offer these programs that work to the families that need them. As you will hear in this interview. The sooner you discover mood disorders, not to be confused with behavior issues, the more effective the treatment.

Our plea here is to get you to please donate to Phoenix Children’s Hospital and their incredible programs and for Robin’s, and many other parents sakes, please earmark a portion or all your donation to Behavioral Health Services.JW

Dreyfuss won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1977 for The Goodbye Girl, and was nominated in 1995 for Mr. Holland’s Opus. He has also won a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award, and was nominated in 2002 for Screen Actors Guild Awards in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries categories.

The Dreyfuss Intiative

The Mission: To teach our kids how to run our country with common sense and realism, before it’s time for them to run the country. If we don’t, someone else will run this country nation and the experiment of government by, for, and of the people will have failed.

This site is a living thing, like the nation, which is its subject. Some things on this site are working fine, and some are still beginning, some are still and being Worked.

We start with no apologies, devoted to the country that declared war on the curse that the world thought eternal:

“You and yours will never rise. You are a serf, you will always be serfs and our heel will always be on your neck.”

Until America said, “Wait a minute. If you can get here, if you are strong and lucky willing to work and can take what life throws at you, you might rise.”

That is the most important political message in the history of civilization. The whole world heard it. That is why they came here, why they come here and why they will always come here. America is a miracle, and only Americans don’t know that anymore, because we don’t teach it.

The country doesn’t happen by itself.. It takes patience, respect, and creativity. We’ve abandoned that for too long, and its time to get serious about learning to understand and maintain this nation, or it will continue this inescapable decay.

The story of making and keeping America is the most noble of stories. Let’s start telling our story with candor and honesty to ourselves again. Who we are and why we are who we are, will go far to regain our devotion to the true gifts we have given mankind.

We are a rare light in an overwhelming darkness of cruelty and oppression. The only ones who can beat us, is us. The only ones who can teach us, is us.

John Hall Diagnosed with Autism and Mental Retardation, Became a Success Story

John Hall Author of “Am I Still Autistic? How a Low Functioning, Slightly Retarded Toddler Became CEO of a Multi-Million Dollar National Corporation

I was recently introduced to this book by my friend Devon Blaine of the Blaine Group, a PR Firm in Beverly Hills, CA and the title immediately caught my attention.

John Hall was diagnosed severely Autistic and mildly mentally retarded and had become the CEO of a very successful company?!

I believe I thought as many would, that he must have been misdiagnosed, but I had to read the book. This was no mistake or joke. John was severely impaired for many years and through the help of Dr. O. Ivar Lovaas of the Lovass Institute and the dogged determination of his mother, John was able to get the treatments and training he needed to be able to cope with the world.

The story does not end here, however as John’s son has been diagnosed with severe Autism and John can now tell the story from both sides.

John’s story is compelling, honest and surprising. The book is well written and I believe it is a must read for parents of children that have been diagnosed. – JW

Am I Still Autistic, The Book?

From Amazon.com

Autism does not have to be a life sentence. John Hall knows. As a toddler, he lived in his own private world, flipping light switches, flushing toilets, banging pans, avoiding eye contact, and babbling unintelligibly.

Today, he is CEO and co-owner of a national communications firm based in Southern California, where he lives with his wife and two children. Defying his initial “slightly retarded, low-functioning autistic” diagnosis, he pushed his way through elementary and high school, put himself through college, earned an MBA, and is sitting for a doctorate!

His confusing, frustrating, often heart-wrenching, sometimes comical journey from disabled to triumphant will inspire every teacher, therapist, parent, and family member who lives with, loves, or works with a special-needs child. Am I Still Autistic? offers a unique inside perspective on life in the special, secluded world of autism, and how love, support, and persistence can help make even the most unlikely candidate for success turn their life around.

John HalL

John Robert Hall III was born in Santa Monica, California on March 5, 1975.

At about 2 years of age, John was diagnosed as severely autistic and slightly mentally retarded. He spent most of his early childhood years in an intensive therapeutic program known as Cheerful Helpers at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

By the age of 6, John had shown significant progress and was mainstreamed in a regular first grade classroom with special education support services.

Despite his progress, John struggled through elementary school to catch-up with his peers, make friends, and better relate to the world he was living in. While he persisted and continued to make dramatic progress throughout elementary and junior high school, it was not until his junior year in high school until John felt he was somewhat “normal.” John went on to complete high school and embarked into adulthood.

John worked full-time through college and by the age of 20 was a Director of Sales & Marketing for a prominent call center firm.

John Hall with His Family

In 1997, John co-founded Greenwood & Hall to provide direct response and emerging e-commerce companies with integrated telemarketing, customer care, payment processing, and product fulfillment solutions.

Greenwood & Hall is now recognized as a leading provider of customer relationship management solutions to a variety of sectors. Most specifically, Greenwood & Hall has emerged as a leading provider of end-to-end solutions to post secondary institutions. At Greenwood & Hall, John oversees business development, corporate strategy and development, new product development, higher education consulting, and the Company’s Enrollment Management Operations. John also manages projects of national interest for Greenwood & Hall.

These projects have included the dedication of the National World War II Memorial, the dedication of the Marine Corps. Museum, White House Conference on Aging, the United States Department of Defense Freedom Walk events, the “Shelter From The Storm” multi-network telethon for victims of Hurricane Katrina, and most recentlyHope For Haiti Now, American Idol Give Back, and Stand Up To Cancer.

John volunteers his time as a mentor for college-ready high school students at Roybal Learning Center, an urban high school in Downtown Los Angeles. He serves on the Board of Directors of Mapping Your Future, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that improves access to post-secondary education as well as financial advocacy.

John received his B.A. in Political Science and his Masters Degree in Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Pepperdine University. John is currently completing his Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) from the University of Southern California.

John currently resides in Irvine, California and has two children, John IV (J.R.), age 5 and Lia, age 3. His son, J.R. was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and neurological disorders.

Bestselling Experts Bob Bare Interviews JW Najarian on building organic SEO with content

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTzv0vPNFI8]

I got a chance to be interviewed by Bob Bare of Bestselling Experts about building organic SEO. I have built many sites and have proven that I can get traffic to the site. I am now working on proving that valuable, inspiring, educational content will get you there faster than content for the sake of content.
What I see many doing is finding interesting stories and linking to them for content. This can work and has done well for many, like AllTop and a few others, but I believe people really are looking for something they cannot find somewhere else.
I just started JW On Purpose and hope that this will prove my point.
Just remember that there is no free lunch and / or instant gratification and it takes time to grow. – JW

JW Najarian

JW Najarian was born in Sacramento California in 1958 and grew up in beautiful Lake Tahoe California.

Growing up in Lake Tahoe gave JW appreciation for nature and at one time he contemplated becoming a naturalist with the forest service. After spending two years with the Youth Conservation Corps, as a student and then teacher he joined the Navy.

Wanting to get training in electronics, he failed the color blind test and was sent to Yeoman school where he learned about military office management. Before his school JW volunteered as a human research subject for the Navy and spent three years stationed in New Orleans at the George C. Marshall Space Center as a test subject for acceleration, deacceleration research. With his office located in the Saturn V test cell, he worked as a research assistant to Dr Robert S. Kennedy and also as an operator of the main computer system that ran and collected data for all the testing.

After the military JW enrolled himself in electronics classes at ITT and got a degree in electronics. He had not forgot his dream of learning electronics and wanted to use that knowledge to hopefully work in music production.

That never happened as the economy tanked in the late 80’s electronics jobs became scarce and JW relied on his knowledge of computers to support himself.

JW worked in the field of computers, electronics and networks till around 2006 when he got the bug to change careers and choose commercial real estate as his new direction.

Again the economy turned sour and commercial real estate got hit hard so JW decided to try marrying his knowledge of businesss, marketing, social media and computers with his new found knowledge of commercial real estate and started the Commercial Real Estate Professional Investors Group (CREPIG) in a quest to help the ailing industry recover by finding may lost funding resources and deals.

CREPIG now has around 12,000 members worldwide and has led to JW co-founding The Commercial Real Estate Distressed Assets Association (CREDAA) which is helping educate CRE professionals in underwriting and learning more about how to handle deals in this distressed market.

JW On Purpose came out of the fact that JW was doing many interviews of CRE industry leaders for his sites and wanted to expand to other markets outside of finance. JW now does interviews with authors, speakers, thought leaders and sometimes celebrities about various subjects, focusing on cause and purpose.

Many of the movers and shakers out there are interviewed about what they do to make money and we want to know that, but we also want to know what causes they support. The world can only shift if we do our part and JW On Purpose wants to focus on helping businesses and leaders with their efforts to help support their philanthropic projects and concerns by spotlighting what they do and who they help, both in business and the community.

JW does many interviews of authors, especially on books with cause and purpose, great story and ones that are educational about the world, finance, business and self development.

Javier Colon 2011 Winner of “The Voice” at GBK Gifting Suite for the AMAs

Javier Colon Talks to Us About His New Album and What Causes He Supports

Javier Colon talks about his newly released album Come Though for You and about his support of cancer awareness and research.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKI5EXVMHVo]

Javier Colon fresh off his video shoot spoke with me at the GBK Gifting Suites at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.
Javier was recently the winner of the new hit show “The Voice“, which I really loved watching. In my mind Javier was the easy winner.
I also took a minute to check out the new album and it is really good. One person on iTunes commented, it is not for everybody and I agree. It is for great music lovers. If you are not one, then you can forget this gem.
OK, Here’s The Truth (Pun Intended), I liked all the songs. Not often I can say that.
All the celebrities are rushed through the interviews by their handlers very quickly so I really appreciate that Javier took his time and answered my questions thoroughly and thoughtfully – JW

Javier ColonJavier ColoN

Javier Colon has a lot of heart.

In fact, that heart is precisely why he captivated America as winner of the inaugural season of NBC’s hit television show, The Voice. It’s why he never gave up on his dream of a career in music even in the face of numerous setbacks and what seemed like endless adversity. It’s why every time he writes a song, it strikes a chord. It’s also why when the world hears his forthcoming 2011 debut album, Come Through For You, on Universal Republic Records, they will feel it.

Colon is no stranger to the music business. After touring with The Derek Trucks Band for two years, he released two major label albums via Capital Records—Javier in 2003 and Left of Center in 2006. Both releases illustrated a daring creativity that expanded beyond the confines of pop music, while still retaining an undeniable sense of melody. He already began to stand out as he carved the foundation for his self-dubbed, “acoustic soul” style.

Colon eventually split with Capitol and released The Truth – Acoustic EP on his own label, Javier Colon Music, in 2010. After a decade, he’d already experienced the road, dealt with the struggles of trying to excel on a competitive and crowded major label roster, and faced the challenges of promoting his music independently. In a sense, he’d seen it all and could’ve thrown in the towel. He wasn’t going to stop though.

Notified of the chance to audition for The Voice in early 2011, Colon took the opportunity. He’d been fighting for another record deal for five years to no avail and wasn’t sure about what the next step would be. Almost canceling the audition due to other show commitments, he decided to go anyway.

“I’m glad I went because The Voice was the best thing that’s happened up to this point in my career,” smiles Colon. “I really try to put everything I am into my songs and performances. I never expect anything, and winning was a shock. I was one-hundred percent happy that I’d simply gotten to the final four contestants. When Carson Daly announced I was the winner, I was elated and I couldn’t believe it. I’m very thankful.”

Original song and debut single “Stitch By Stitch” not only clenched the top prize on The Voice for Colon, but it also became something of a phenomenon. During the first week of its digital release, the song exceeded sales of 145,000 and peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Colon even performed “Stitch By Stitch” on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno. With its lilting acoustic guitar and Colon’s palpable, powerful delivery, it’s an honest and heartfelt ballad.

“Stitch By Stitch” is only one thread of Colon’s debut. He began writing songs for the record in July 2011, and he dove deep inside himself. The next single, “As Long As We Got Love” featuring Natasha Bedingfield, sees Colon expanding even further as a songwriter. On this irresistible duet, the singers’ voices intertwine in a hypnotic harmony that’s simply unforgettable.

Colon’s been up for it since he first discovered music as a kid growing up in Connecticut. His father was a DJ at a local radio station, so there was always music playing at home. “From an early age, I’d start mimicking the singers I’d hear on the radio,” he recalls. “With encouragement from my mom and a few teachers, I started performing at school. After that, I wanted to be all over anything that had to do with music.”

In addition, Colon writes his own music, constantly keeping himself open to inspiration. A family man, he keeps his wife and daughters close to his heart at all times often writing about them. He continues, “I connect emotionally to the songs I write, especially if they have anything to do with my wife or my little girls. As a result, music can happen at any time. I’ve had instances where I’ll wake up in the middle of the night with two full verses of lyrics that I hardly even have to think about. I hope people connect to that.

“When they get a chance to hear Come Through For You, they’ll undoubtedly connect. Colon isn’t simply following anyone else’s path either; he’s making his own way. “My influences range from James Taylor to James Brown,” Colon adds. “I approach pop from a singer-songwriter’s perspective, and I try to infuse soul into that style.

“With a fresh take on pop, soul, and acoustic music, Javier’s journey starts with the release of Come Through For You. He concludes, “I hope the album takes people on my journey through all of the trials and tribulations we’ve made it through together. It’s definitely important that the songs move people.”

Skylar Grey Talks to Us About What Causes She Supports

Skylar Grey tells about her tattoo, supporting saving whales and her support of Elton John’s Aids Foundation and Stand Up to Cancer.
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7mFsuBekwA]

I got a minute to talk with Skylar Grey at the GBK Gifting Suites at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.
I so wish I would have had more time. I love Skylar’s music. I first Googled her after hearing the Eminem, Dr Dre tune I Need a Doctor and so wanted to find out who sung that part. Though I like a lot of it, I am not the biggest Hip-Hop or Rap fan, but I did love the singing in that song.
I also love her rendition of I Love The Way You Lie, much better than Rhianna’s. No dis to Rhianna, love her too.
I understand that Eminem did fight for her to sing the vocal on I need a doctor and if you want to hear more great music from Skylar you need to listen to her single Invisible (spelled weird meaning invincible). Sade pronounces her name “Shar-Day” so why not.
Skylar, hopefully I will get another chance to do an interview with more meaning and depth, but I really loved meeting you – JW

Skylar Grey, who just signed with Interscope Records, following a production deal with producer/songwriter Alex Da Kid for his Wonderland Music imprint is currently in the studio with Alex Da Kid writing and recording her debut album for Wonderland Music/Interscope Records, for which she intends to release the lead-off single this spring.

Most recently, Grey earned two 2011 Grammy Award nominations including “Song of the Year” for her collaboration to “Love the Way You Lie” and performed “I Need A Doctor” alongside Eminem and Dr. Dre at this year’s GRAMMY Award ceremony.  Initially, Grey made a name for herself as a songwriter with such  high-profile collaborations as “Love The Way You Lie” (Eminem), “I Need A Doctor” (Dr. Dre), “Words I Never Said” (Lupe Fiasco), and “Castle Walls” (T.I.), Grey was also featured as a vocalist on “Love the Way You Lie,” “Doctor,” and “Words.”

“Getting to perform on television with Eminem and Dr. Dre still doesn’t feel real to me and now to perform with Diddy-Dirty Money in the course of a month is unreal,” said Grey.  “I’m really excited about the opportunity to perform on Idol.  It’s incredible to have all of this leading into my album coming this year – I am so fortunate.”

I am no expert, but I could have spent hours talking with Donna as you will hear from this interview, she has so much great, new and interesting information to share. Donna thank you for your time and for giving so graciously. – JW

Body Ecology, Inc

Los Angeles, CA-headquartered Body Ecology, Inc. may be the only company launched due to the demand created by a book!

When the first edition of The Body Ecology Diet:  Recovering Your Health and Rebuilding Your Immunity was published in 1996 by author Donna Gates, many of the supplements she recommended were not readily available as it was the first probiotic diet… easily 15 years ahead of its time.

As a result, she soon found herself in the product business, sourcing organic coconut oil and stevia, the sweetener, from around the world.  In fact, she’s credited for revolutionizing the market.

Not only did she bring stevia into the country and started a grass roots movement to get FDA approval–now, 15 years later, Coke and Pepsi are going to use it in their soft drinks because of the toxic nature of artificial sweeteners that Donna taught about.  And, while the scientific community totally wrote off coconut oil, Donna knew they were wrong.

Her work spurred new research on coconut oil and now it’s considered the healthiest oil on the market. She was also the first to reintroduce fermented foods to the American diet, way ahead of the probiotic trend, and supported Lifeway/Helios milk kefir to become multi-million dollar companies.

Today, The Body Ecology Diet is in its eleventh edition, sold nearly a quarter of a million copies and the newly revised edition is published by Hay House.

Body Ecology’s premium product line, made of quality ingredients, is sold in specialty health-niche stores throughout the United States and online.  For consumers who do not have such a store in their area, Body Ecology recently launched an e-commerce site, www.bodyecology.com.

These are the highest quality products available for people who have digestive health issues and auto-immune issues, including never before available fermented products that increase absorption and probiotic count.

The Body Ecology line was designed by Donna Gates after years of research to provide a foundational approach to make up for the nutritional deficiencies in modern diet and food supply in order to recover health, rebuild immunity, and grow younger.  Product categories include:

  • Body Ecology Core Program
  • Superfoods
  • Probiotic Beverages
  • Culture Starters
  • Digestive Aids
  • Cleanse Aids
  • Mineral Supplements
  • Natural Sweeteners
  • Healthy Living Books
  • Education Materials
  • Other Products

Body Ecology’s founder Gates, a leading expert in digestive health, has helped hundreds of thousands heal and improve their health.  Dealing with her own health issues and frustrated with conventional medicine, she embarked on a long course of study into many different healing concepts, including ancient Chinese medicine, macrobiotics, raw foods, and mega-supplement therapy.

Her mission is to change the way the world eats.  Over the past 25 years, she has become one of the most beloved and respected authorities in the field of digestive health, diet and nutrition, enjoying a worldwide reputation as an expert in anti-aging, weight loss, autism, auto-immune diseases, candida, and adrenal fatigue.  Gates has also been a key figure in revolutionizing the natural health industry by introducing and popularizing stevia, coconut oil, kefir and probiotic nutrition.

Body Ecology has certified nearly 400 Body Ecology coaches, not just throughout the United States but also in Australia and Europe.

I asked Lisa to share the vast amount of wisdom she has amassed from her journey of getting her invention to market. She is not done yet, but very close and I believe this is information any product person should know.  Thanks Lisa – JW

Our Sincerest Thank You to Stephen B, the comedian that helped us put this together. Stephen said yes to this crazy idea of mine and did an amazing job of writing the whole script. Bob and I just played straight man and Stephen B made the magic.

For nearly 30 years Stephen B has been making audiences laugh in comedy clubs, corporate venues and in churches of all denominations. With his high energy and animated delivery Stephen’s material runs the gamut from silly to poignant to the absurd but he never crosses the line to get a cheap laugh at the expense of decency. His opinionated observations on life and society juxtaposed with his own flaws and shortcomings make for a hilarious combination of rants, raves and stories that poke fun at the absurdity of being human.

Stephen has opened for headlining musical acts such as Manhattan Transfer, Al Di Meola, Weird Al Yankovic, Leon Redbone, Michael Bolton, Julio Iglesias and Randy Stonehill. You can see him at next year’s Spirit West Coast Festivals in San Diego and Monterey CA.

Recently I got the chance to cover the GBK Gifting Suite for the American Music Awards at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. Billy Gibbons took a minute of his time while supporting the vendors and causes, to tell us what he thought about helping out.

ZZ Top has always been one of my favorite bands as I love their unique Texas Radio sound and as a guitarist myself, I always was in awe of how a three piece always sounded so good. As a lead guitarist it is always hard to not have the bottom fall out of the tune without a rhythm guitarist.

From their long beards, great guitars, cool sound and cool moves, ZZ Top is a class act. Thanks Billy- JW

In this interview Jack talks about his new book he wrote with William Gladstone, called The Golden Motorcycle Gang……

The Golden Motorcycle Gang
Have you ever asked yourself why you are on planet Earth? And what the ultimate purpose for your life might be? Well, Jack Canfield asked himself this very question and came up with a surprising answer—part of which included a vision revealing that he is part of a “Golden Motorcycle Gang”—a gang whose intent is to have fun, but also to make significant contributions to the well-being of humanity.

During a joyful dinner many years ago in Santa Barbara, California, Jack told his friend William Gladstoneabout the Gang. Upon hearing this account, William had an epiphany that Jack’s story held a powerful underlying truth not only explaining Jack’s true purpose, but William’s as well.

For more than ten years, William encouraged Jack to write a book based on the story of the Gang, so they have now collaborated on this work to show you its relevance to this critical moment in the history of human civilization . . . and also to you, personally. As you read, you will be introduced to some of the extraordinary members of the Golden Motorcycle Gang, including visionary thinkers such as Barbara Marx Hubbard, the originator of the concept of Conscious Evolution.

The mystery and adventure inherent in this book reveals that there is now the opportunity for all of us on planet Earth to make a quantum leap in real time toward choosing the actual course of our evolution. Along the way, we are meant to experience the joy that comes from recognizing who we really are.

My first time, first day and first interview at BlogWorld 2011 was Guy Kawasaki. I was there as media for Metta Media and GSG WorldMedia.

John Persinos the editorial director for GSG sat down with Guy as I filmed the interview which you can see in the new issue of G+ for business.

It was then my turn and I really did want to get into his book, AllTop and a couple of other things, Since he was doing a keynote with Chris Brogan he had not prepared a talk so Guy had less than an hour to prepare for his talk on Google+

I hope by talking with us, it warmed him up.

I really appreciate the time he did give us and thank him for how easy he made xananax getting the interview done.- JW

Abolishing Slavery – Roger Plant Special Head of International Labour Organization – Retired

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UkM0AbCriQ]

roger plant international labour organizationRoger Plant

Roger Plant, as former head of the ILO Special action programme to combat forced labour, set out to count the number of persons in forced labour in the world today. The premise: you can’t cure it if you can’t count it. The ILO global estimate of forced labourers—and of the profits made by slaveholders—have helped forge a worldwide governmental response.

Roger headed to Geneva, Switzerland in 2002 and was appointed at the head of the “special action program” that had just been created at the International Labour Organization (ILO), an agency of the United Nations. His goal at the ILO was to combat situations worldwide where people are forced to work against their will. The first challenge was to convince politicians, diplomats, business leaders and labour unions that slavery truly is a global problem.

“We’ve got to persuade public opinion,” Roger says, “and this is the importance of that headcount.”

The research team determined there are at least 12 million people forced to work against their will in the world today, generating nearly $32 billion in illicit profits for traffickers. The team was quick to say their figures were a minimum estimate, noting that they had uncovered just the “tip of a disturbing iceberg.”

Their reports came with the full force of the United Nations behind them. They are regarded as breakthroughs that helped propel governments and international institutions to take action. They created global benchmarks for measuring progress.

“I think probably the most important thing about this global estimate is not the aggregate number in itself,” Roger says. “It’s the light it shed on the forms of slavery-like practice in the world today.

“The more I got into it, the more I realized that this is not just small backward agriculture in the south Asian countries,” Roger says. “You can find slavery today affecting children, women and also men in major construction companies, in electronics, in automobiles, in shipbuilding, in the richest industrialized countries. I can tell you there is no country which is immune from this terrible problem today.”

Roger’s team at the ILO went on to study global migration and economic patterns that allow slave traffickers to prey on the disadvantaged. He has bucked the slow-and-soft approach that typifies international agencies, to build bridges among those who have the resources to make change. “Business has got to get together with governments, with trade unions, to tackle loopholes in legislation which is allowing modern slavery to proliferate around the globe,” Roger says.

Roger recently retired from the ILO, but he hasn’t stopped fighting. How long can Roger carry on? “As long as I’ve got energy,” he insists, “as long as I can keep moving.”

Roger Plant, winner of the William Wilberforce Award

The award is named after William Wilberforce, and is given periodically to an individual who has moved a major institution, government, business or large groups of people to significant action to fight slavery.

Free the Slaves created the Freedom Awards to celebrate today’s anti-slavery heroes and to catalyze additional innovation and resources to end slavery once and for all. The Awards program will define what successful, sustainable anti-slavery work looks like and build a vision of freedom for change-makers to adopt. More………

Free The Slaves

Free the Slaves knows that slavery flourishes when people cannot meet their basic needs. Slavery is rampant where poor people lack economic opportunities, education, healthcare and an honest government.  A holistic approach is required to eradicate slavery forever. That’s why we:

  • Free slaves around the world by working with grassroots organizations where slavery flourishes.
  • Record and share their stories so people in power can see slavery and be inspired to work for freedom.
  • Enlist businesses to clean slavery out of their product chains and empower consumers to stop buying into slavery.
  • Work with governments to produce effective anti-slavery laws then hold them to their commitments.
  • Research what works and what doesn’t so that we use resources strategically and effectively to end slavery. Forever.

Marion LoGuidice – Song Writer, Singer Leaning Into Fear

marion loguidiceMarion LoGuidice connects with me on Facebook to promote a song she recorded with Cyndi Lauper. I get a ton of stuff so I probably would have deleted it if it were not for the fact that I really like Cyndi. I decided to take a look at Marion’s YouTube video “Mary” and fell in love with the song.

Marion LoGuidice writes words with meaning and puts them to beautiful music. She was recently released a “Mary” a song she wrote and sang in a duo with Cyndi Lauper.  She is working on releasing a new album, but if you ask her what drives her; it is not the music, money or fame, it is her quest not to be ruled by fear. It is about meeting the world on her own terms.

Marion did not really start here music career till she hit her 40’s and almost immediately started recording and singing live. She claims she has quit more times than she can remember, but continues to lean into fear on her path to her most authentic life.

I hooked up with Marion via social media which she is working hard to master. I heard her song Mary, that is the one Cyndi sang on. I loved it and started searching Youtube for more. Her videos are great, but, now that I have gotten the chance to hear the whole album (God’s House), I am blown away. The album is wonderfully produced. It took me on a journey and each song was a new and welcome surprise.

From the heavy beating guitar licks, powerful words and more powerful singing on Mary and the take no prisoners “Sorry”, to the haunting beautiful melodies on “The River” and whimsical piano on “Mr Brown” Marion never stops delivering sincere reality and passion in every note.

Thank you Marion you have been wonderful to get to know and I so appreciate your time and all you have given to make this interview possible. Much love to you and Bernadette. – JW

Marion Loguidice

The music of Marion LoGuidice delivers poetic lyrics and forceful melodies which explore the intimate world of grief, beauty and forgiveness. Operating at the cross roads of rock, pop and folk, Marion is–“as young as tomorrow, and as old as yesterday.”

Whether one chooses to acknowledge the spiritual world and its cosmic ideals, one cannot deny the power of a greater force; it’s a natural draw to something that’s passionately raw and real, and it’s something unexplainable. It’s the desire to search and grab a hold of the soul survivor within oneself, and having the strength to make sense of what’s in front of you.Singer/songwriter Marion LoGuidice has her finger on this exact pulse — embracing the good while tearing apart the bad for a richer understanding of what fuels our creative being.

“What each song is for me is like another vertebrae in this new backbone that I have been building for myself,” LoGuidice says. “Each time I am moved to write another song, I feel as if I am leaving the topside world that we live in and entering into a sacred place — a place where some kind of healing goes on that isn’t so obvious — for me it feels like God’s house. I believe that healing one’s heart is an inside job, and once you find the right kind of support (people who understand the kind of endurance and strength it takes to heal) you must share the gifts of that journey.”

For LoGuidice, it’s the power of song that gives life to her inner struggles. She examines the loss of certain relationships while also analyzing painful situations bigger than one’s own control, and it’s her poetic approach — an abounding combination of layered choruses, extensive bridges, and vivid emotional imagery — that blossoms into a tangible optimism. Such lyrical narratives carry the lilting beauty of her second album, God’s House.

While her 2003 self-released debut Mother Wheel provided a glimpse into her abundant inquisitiveness, the majestic sanctuary that is God’s House finds the Long Island-bred songstress tapping into her New Yorker sensibility with a warm sensitivity. Her earthy, dramatic vocals are reminiscent of country-folk singer Victoria Williams, while her wild artistic spirit recalls Laura Nyro and Sophie B. Hawkins.

Also this time around, LoGuidice embraced her role as a live performer. Prior to issuing Mother Wheel, she hadn’t performed before a live audience, however with a 2004 appearance at SXSW, and several sold-out performances at the intimate Manhattan showcase Joe’s Pub and additional house concerts under her belt, LoGuidice’s stage presence has flourished.

“My songs are like lamps and when I stand on stage, I plug them in,” she beams. “There’s a certain kind of channeling that I do when I step on stage — I unplug from this world to go into this other dimension, and it comes from a very deep, honest place. I think people are craving that in their life.”

Jody Denberg, Content Manager at KSGR Radio in Austin, Texas has been championing LoGuidice since the start. Denberg says, “Once in a blue moon a CD hits as deep as Marion LoGuidice’s. Let yourself be touched by this music. It is beautiful, emotional, musically unique and positively inspiring.” Cyndi Lauper is such a fan , as depicted in her heart wrenching duet with Marion on a song from her second CD “Gods House” titled “Mary”.

LoGuidice adds, “Most of all, I want my music to be of service to others who feel like they’ve filed away their creative life ,their richer life, or what I call my soul life — into some dark corner. That’s my deepest desire because it brought my life from a place of just surviving to a place of thriving”

Enough about EAv. Go check it out and remember not to let the tail wag the dog.

Liz plays Angry Birds and is on EAv and I see here there and everytime I do something on EAv Liz says something nice and one day she sends me a nice personal tweet. Thank you so much Liz. This interview starts out a bit rough and I apologize, but you were a trooper and did not let my fumbling deter you from making your incredible points.

Many of us struggle with social media and others are building incredible lists of thousand and thousands, but the most important and hardest thing to do on the web, in sales and marketing and social media is to build rapport and community. Some can build huge rapport and community, but have no clue how, why or if they should market them. Liz can do both and very well.

Take the time to listen to this interview more than once. This is one of the more important interviews I have done and you will learn from listening to Liz – JW

Larry McDonald on The Collapse and The Future of the Economy

Lawrence G. McDonald Senior Director at Newedge and NY Times Bestselling Author of “A Colossal Failure of Common Sense – The

Inside Story of the Collapse of Lehman Brothers; certainly the first and one of the most comprehensive and well written books on the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the economy as a whole, sat down with me to discuss his life, the book, the fall of Lehman and what he believes is going on with the economy both nationally and internationally.

Larry is known for successfully reading market trends both during the dot com meltdown of 2000 and was one of a group of people at Lehman’s that actively predicted the fall of the real estate markets in 2008 when everyone else was bullish.
I really enjoyed Larry’s book because it is a great story and Larry lays out the confusion of those tense days of crash in a way everyone can understand and

comprehend.

Larry Mcdonald book a colossal failure of common sense lehman brothersThe Book

One of the biggest questions of the financial crisis has not been answered until now. What happened at Lehman Brothers and why was it allowed to fail, with aftershocks that rocked the global economy? In this news-making, often astonishing book, a former Lehman Brothers Vice President gives us the straight answers—right from the belly of the beast.

In A Colossal Failure of Common Sense, Larry McDonald, a Wall Street insider, reveals the culture and unspoken rules of the game like no book has ever done. The book is couched in the very human story of Larry McDonald’s Horatio Alger-like rise from a Massachusetts “gateway to nowhere” housing project to the New York headquarters of Lehman Brothers, home of one of the world’s toughest trading floors.

We get a close-up view of the participants in the Lehman collapse, especially those who saw it coming with a helpless, angry certainty. We meet the Brahmins at the top, whose reckless, pedal-to-the-floor addiction to growth finally demolished the nation’s oldest investment bank. The Wall Street we encounter here is a ruthless place, where brilliance, arrogance, ambition, greed, capacity for relentless toil, and other human traits combine in a potent mix that sometimes fuels prosperity but occasionally destroys it.

The full significance of the dissolution of Lehman Brothers remains to be measured. But this much is certain: it was a devastating blow to America’s—and the world’s—financial system. And it need not have happened. This is the story of why it did. Read More…..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I met Carol at Camp Widow where she graciously volunteered to speak to other widows about her story. She was well received and she took a minute to give me an on camera interview (coming soon).
Carol is so fun and easy to talk to and I just had to get her to do a podcast with me. I love her use of humor to discuss the rough subject of the loss and grief of losing your spouse, but she is never disrespectful and I believe she gives to others what she calls grief relief.
Thank you Carol for a great interview and for all that you do. – JW
Rare Interview with Paulo Coelho on his new book Aleph
aleph paulo coelhoI really consider myself a blessed person. First to get a call from Gary Goldstein and Rick Frishman; Rick is in town to talk at Harv Eker’s Greatest Marketing Seminar, A seminar I have attended more that once and really like, and Craig Duswalts Rock Star Marketing seminar, and second is to get a personal invitation from  Rick, who is one of the nicest people on the planet; almost as nice as Gary, to come to Vegas to attend Author 101 and help his attendees learn about social media marketing!
I of course said YES. I will be there… If you have seen any of my interviews, you will notice that many of my best ones were done at Author 101 in Los Angeles. Author 101 was such a great experience and I got to interview and meet the best of the best so I jumped at the invitation.
What does this have to do with Paulo you ask? It is the long intro to the very short story so hang in there.
Anyway, I will be helping new and seasoned authors get small interviews of themselves and their books that will be placed on the web and shared via my fairly large web reach. The authors will be allowed to use the videos for their own promotions also… Very cool right!?
If you want to write your book, publish your book, learn how to market your book with others or by yourself you need to be there. Here is the link to come and hang out with me, Gary and Rick in Las Vegas Oct 27th – 30th FULL DISCLOSURE: I believe in this program so much I am making Author 101 one of my sponsors so this is my affiliate link to register for the event REGISTER FOR AUTHOR101 Watch my video with Rick and Gary for more info…
Paulo Coelho
paulo coelhoOK so here is how Paulo is involved. Best Selling Author, Brendon Bruchard is a great friend of Rick’s because he met his agent Scott Hoffman at Author 101. Now since I have had the wonderful pleasure of hanging out with Rick, he shared a message from Brendon with me. Brendon is giving away 1000 of Paulo’s books plus his own for a very small shipping charge.
This is no joke. I do not make a commission to sell for Brendon and I have no idea how many books are left. The interview is excellent, if you can imagine two of the greatest thought leaders discussing their philosophies about attaining and living a better and more fulfilling life and there may be a chance to get two books free. Paulo’s and Brendon’s
Paulo has sold over 140,000,000 books worldwide and has 6,586,260 Facebook fans and 2,381,733 Twitter followers. He is a UN Messenger of Peace and the last three U.S. Presidents have talked about this person’s books. He wrote The Alchemist.
The book giveaway is only second to a special interview Brendon is doing with Paulo. Brendon is the only person in the United States to get an interview (outside of The New York Times) so this will be a very exclusive interview
Sharon Lechter on Napoleon Hill and Outwitting The Devil
Sharon LechterSharon Lechter brings us a Napoleon Hill Manuscript that has been hidden for over 73 Years!
outwitting_the_devilCo-Author of one of the longest number one best sellers ever; Rich Dad Poor Dad and author or co-author of 19 other books mainly about personal finance and investing sat down with me to talk about her newest project.
Outwitting The Devil – Napoleon Hill / Sharon L. Lechter
Sharon was asked by the Napoleon Hill Society to take Hill’s manuscript that had been kept secret for over 70 years and update it for the modern reader. Mr. Hill’s wife thought the book to be to provocative and the repercussions she feared from having it released caused her to keep it from being published,
Sharon fully annotates the book with well placed references to what was going on historically during the writing of this book and with thoughtful questions and insights to help readers get through some of the more provocative or complex content.
The book is mainly about Hill’s long conversation with the Devil himself. The real Devil or… Well, it is up to you. The truth is; it doesn’t matter, by using the Devil as the interviewee Hill can tackle the Ying and Yang or both sides of the seven principles of success the book is really about. I believe the book is a must read anytime, but especially during our current economic catastrophe.
It is an important book and and Napoleon Hill fans will love this book as it is full of Hill’s genius. It is also a sort of biography of Hill written by himself, that gets extremely personal and introspective.
I believe this book is a game changer and has the ability to boldly change your present paradigm of thinking. This book will easily become another classic! – JW
By the way the graphic of the Disney Rose from my garden is just that. There is no special meaning to this story or post. I just liked it.
I took a ton of pictures of the flowers our yard and shared them on Flickr. So why did I put a picture here? Because this story seemed dull without a picture. So now you know the PURPOSE of the graphic. If you are interested, here are the rest of my pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/jwnajarian/sets/72157626992498566
The purpose or mission here is to deliver, what I like to call, DIIIEEECCC (Pronounced ^%$@%$#@ or Whatever!).  It stands for Delivering Intriguing, Inspiring, Interesting, Educational, Entertaining, Enlightening, Cheerful and Compelling Content.
We often ask questions related to cause. We love to know what causes you support and we like to try and help you put out the word for your cause.
I love the double entendre meaning with the name On Purpose. First I love the word purpose. Here is the definition.
pur·pose  (pûrps)
n.
1. The object toward which one strives or for which something exists; an aim or a goal: “And ever those, who would enjoyment gain/Must find it in the purpose they pursue” (Sarah Josepha Hale).
2. A result or effect that is intended or desired; an intention. See Synonyms at intention.
3. Determination; resolution: He was a man of purpose.
4. The matter at hand; the point at issue.
tr.v. pur·posed, pur·pos·ing, pur·pos·es
To intend or resolve to perform or accomplish.
Idioms:
on purpose
Intentionally; deliberately.
to good purpose
With good results.
to little/no purpose
With few or no results.
[Middle English purpos, from Anglo-Norman, from purposer, to intend : pur-, forth (from Latin pr-; see pro-1) + poser, to put; see pose1.]
purpose [ˈpɜːpəs]
n
1. the reason for which anything is done, created, or exists
2. a fixed design, outcome, or idea that is the object of an action or other effort
3. fixed intention in doing something; determination a man of purpose
4. practical advantage or use to work to good purpose
5. that which is relevant or under consideration (esp in the phrase to or from the purpose)
6. Archaic purport
on purpose intentionally
vb (tr)
to intend or determine to do (something)
[from Old French porpos, from porposer to plan, from Latin prōpōnere to propose]
Collins English Dictionary – Complete and Unabridged © HarperCollins Publishers 1991, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2003
So we can use the word on as an adverb or adjective to change the meaing.
On Purpose, where on is the adjective to mean either with intent, determination, resolve, accomplish and result as in the phrase “They are doing that on purpose”, meaning that they are doing something with intent or using on as an adverb as in the phrase “He is writing this book on pupose.” which says that the subject of the book is about purpose.
Anyway as a phrase   It sounds good and, I believe it is apropos to what I am trying to do here.
Hope everyone likes it as much as I do…  Thanks Hyla
Crap, Now I need a Logo. If you have any ideas… Let me know what you think.
Speak Your Business in 30 Seconds or Less(tm) with Ann Convery
Ann ConveryAnn Talks About How to Increase Your Sales, Leads and Clients in 2 Minutes
How would you like to attract up to 50% more cash, clients and business in the next few weeks?
Effortlessly attract new business in 30 seconds or less with no visible sales technique. Anywhere. Any place. Any time.
I met Ann at a training given by Gary W. Goldstein, the producer of the movie “Pretty Woman”.
Gary was teaching his course “Scaling the Great Wall of Hollywood” and he brought Ann in to speak to the group about how to take their current elevator pitch and update it so that it would, not just let people know what you did, but it would also be able to touch the person in the core of their brain and get them to get excited about what you did. – JW
So after sitting down with her for a personal consultation, I was amazed at what she had taught me in a 15 minute meeting.
My expectation was that she would help me refine my pitch somewhat and that would be it, but refine is not the word. Propel to a new quantum place is a better description.
Update: I recorded a video with Ann at Author 101 in Los Angeles. Although we go into much more detail in this podcast we do have a very interesting conversation I know you will enjoy. Here is the link to go check it out. http://onpurposemagazine.com/2012/04/11/ann-convery-video-interview-at-author-101/
Here was my pitch:
Q. What do you do?
A. I consult with businesses to help them use Twitter.
A great short pitch right? I would say it and get little or no response. “Oh that’s great! Which way to the cheese platter” or “I don’t know how to use that Twitter thing yet”.
Ann told me about the Lizard or Old Brain and how it needed to hear what it wanted or it would shut down and put into hibernation, the conscious brain.
We took my pitch and changed it to…
A. I help people like you increase their targeted client or prospect list by 1000+% in 3 months!
BANG…
At first I said sounds great… then I used the pitch. Most everyone replied with Really! How do you do that?, Can you do that for me., Wow I could use that service., Wow, I have a friend that really needs that…
The difference in response was night and day. Ann has hit on something really basic and useful and you have to listen to this recording because Ann goes into detail and shares over twice as much as she shared with me during that first meeting.
You will walk away with tools and strategies to make a difference in how you talk to new and old clients that will help you increase and propel your business to new heights in less than 2 minutes…
A NOTE: Ann is great at the elevator pitch, but it only begins there. She can help you will all aspects of corporate and business communications and marketing. – JW Najarian
Getting Ready to Change the Theme on This Blog
JW NajarianGetting ready to work on JW360.net’s Theme.  I left up the temporary theme while moving all the content over from Networking Fools. It has been a bear, but it will be done soon. I have held up doing some interviews because they started to back up a bit, but I will have a bunch out soon.
I am going to start journaling as much as possible here as I want this content to feed Twitter and Facebook as opposed to putting separate stuff up everywhere. There are only so many friggen hours in the day man.
I hope you enjoy my ramblings as much as my interviews. If not, well that is OK too.
I will be playing with WordPress.com themes. If anyone has ideas on which one is best for featuring without losing the header, I am all ears.
Yet another road to discovery. I am now off to read Napoleon Hill’s Outwitting the Devil. Very good book, this is a keeper and I will be writing on it soon.
Jack Canfield
Testing WordPress Post with this pic from Flickr
How cool is this… I just left Flickr where it allowed me to share this pic with this site.
Very Cool…
OK about the pic.. I was at a Humanity Unites Brilliance (HUB) conference and Jack was speaking there. Gary Goldstein graciously introduced us and we sat down and listened to Jack tell us about his recent trip to South America where he got a chance to hang out with the natives..
Great stories from a very nice guy.
Gary took this photo as Jack was leaving to speak.
Thanks Gary.
Empire Avenue Not Just A Game
Empire-Avenue-The-Social-Media-ExchangeEmpire Avenue – How Do You Measure Your Social Media Effectiveness
I know, results. Are you getting the results you want? If not then you might want to check out Empire Avenue.
You may or may not have heard about Empire Avenue (#EAv for those at Twitter keeping score), but I believe you will and if you are spending any time on the web trying to figure out how to increase your reach and relevance, you should be using this tool.
Empire Avenue is a Game with Useful Purpose
It is a game and it is addicting, but if you do not let the tail wag the dog, as Randy Gage (e)RGAGE puts it, EA can help you find out where you are strong and where you are weak. If you have an addictive personality, I would go and read 4 Hour Workweek, before embarking on this journey. If you go about your daily routine and visit EA for about 30 minutes a day you will be ok and the payback will be big.
I have been on EA for less than a month and I have already met some great connectors and had increased traffic to my blog and to Twitter and Facebook. I have found out that my weak area is my Facebook page and it has made me change the way I did things, for the better.
empire avenue (e)JWN
Empire Avenue Screen JW Najarian (e)JWN
There is a short learning curve with, but I still cannot figure out Facebook and I have found EA to be very easy overall. No I do not understand it all yet…
Tons of Great Information and Tutorials on Use and Strategy are all Over the Web
If you want a great understanding of EA my new EA friend Randy Gage has written what he calls the Empire Avenue Manifesto and if you are new to EA it is a great place to get a feel for what is going on… Randy will ask you to join under him and that is your choice, but how it works is not like network marketing the person you join under is now not your leader or friend, they receive 2000.00 and I believe you get 2000.00 for seed capital. It is FREE to join.. the money is not real!
JOIN With Me
Anyway you can join by using my url (RECOMMENDED) cause Randy is already rich and JW wants to catch up to him… Here is my link  http://empireavenue.com/?t=f7t3zqvb
By the reason even mention you might go with Randy after reading his manifesto is that his blog is over the top great, so I would not blame you. It is absolutely one of my favorites. Now I can’t steal from it cause you will know, but it is worth it to point out valuable content to any and everyone.
If you are still here and reading then you can find out more from the post I grabbed below.
I grabbed this from the Social Media Exchange, a post by Berrie Pelser
Empire Avenue is the Social Media Exchange, where you can buy and sell shares in any social media profile, meet new people, unlock Achievement badges, and earn boatloads of virtual cash by being active and social online! Buy shares in your friends, your followers, people with similar interests, brands you love, celebrities – anyone! All using a virtual currency and all for free!
Be Social, Reap the Rewards
When you join Empire Avenue, you can connect your Social Networking accounts, and we’ll score activity and engagement in each account and give you a virtual share price. The connections you make on Empire Avenue create “value-based” relationships, a deeper relationship than simply “following” someone, in a completely different context than becoming “friends.”
Every day, you’re on Twitter, talking to friends on Facebook, uploading videos or photos, and writing blog posts. Just for doing that stuff, you’ll earn Eaves – our virtual currency – and we’ll dish out some more virtual cash to your shareholders. Along the way you’ll have a bit of fun, make new connections, learn about different people, and learn about social networking and the value of your network! Use your Eaves wisely and you might just become a virtual millionaire… or billionaire (insert evil, world-dominating laugh)?
What are you waiting for? Get started now! It’s free!
Empire Avenue for Business
Empire Avenue is inherently a social media networking game that allows you to connect with individuals based on “value relationships” – these are much closer relationships than just having someone follow you on Twitter or Like you on Facebook. Use Empire Avenue to find highly engaged individuals around the world across a wide variety of interests. It’s a great way to get your brand in front of new, engaged audiences and connect with relevant customers in a fun environment. Hey, even businesses can have fun and still profit.
Empire Avenue as a Tool
Empire Avenue is what you make of it. Empire Avenue can be used as a complement to your social networking, as a way to meet and make great new connections, find individuals who are engaged in each of their networks and as a way to connect across the social web. If you’re new to social media, Empire Avenue can even be a great training tool – a fun way to discover the power of social networks, find out how strong your social media efforts are and how to make your online presence even more effective!
