NicodermCQ / Nicorette Introduce Pledge to Quit Smoking Program
NicodermCQ / Nicorette Introduce New Pledge To Quit Program at GBK Luxury Gifting Suite to Help Support TabaccoFreeKids.org
NicodermCQs Jason Andre explains their new pledge program and how they are helping GBK Gifting Suites help people and kids, quit smoking.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VzgQrgq34s]
As someone that has recently stopped smoking, I can attest to how tough it can be.
I quit with every other puff and finally it took. I really should have tried NicodermCQ or Nicorette, but I was too stubborn and it cost me so much quality time with my lungs.
Since quitting I have gotten rid of my smokers cough, I feel better, taste more, am in better shape and have lost over 15 pounds. Yes that is right lost pounds! I quit to save my health so I am eating healthier also.
If you are still smoking, make a pledge to stop. I know it is tough, but it is worth it and I believe that the patch and gum might just be what you need to be successful – JW
NicodermCQ
What is a nicotine patch?
To some people, the toughest part of quitting is dealing with the nicotine cravings that come with it. One way to overcome the need for nicotine is to stop smoking but partially replace
the nicotine that you would have had from smoking. As your body adapts to having less, you will experience the urge to smoke less often. Eventually, you can completely stop supplying your body with nicotine. This is the idea behind Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).
Patches like NicoDerm CQ are just one form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy. They look like large adhesive bandages and stick onto the skin in the same way. The sticky side of the patch contains a layer of nicotine. While you wear the patch, nicotine passes through the skin into your blood. This delivers nicotine in a steady stream, helps reduce the nicotine cravings that come from quitting and making it easier for you to use your willpower to quit smoking.
Unlike other patches, NicoDerm CQ features Time Release SmartControl Technology so it acts fast and lasts long to help control your cravings and double your chances of quitting*. And since it’s a thin, clear patch, it’s easy to wear discreetly.
Nicorette Gum
How Nicorette® Gum Works
It is difficult when you’re quitting and all you can think about is your next
cigarette. Nicorette Gum® helps calm your withdrawal symptoms when you’re
trying to quit. That’s because, when you stop smoking, the sudden removal of
nicotine from your system lowers your dopamine levels, making you feel
moody and irritable.
Nicorette Gum provides a controlled amount of nicotine to your system at a slower, less intense pace than cigarettes and without the toxins in cigarette
smoke. It’s a temporary therapeutic aid that reduces withdrawal symptoms and helps you quit smoking.
Your body gradually adjusts to having less nicotine until you no longer need any. By helping to relieve cravings, Nicorette lets you focus on disrupting the patterns that link cigarettes to so many of your daily activities.
Tobacco Free Kids
Winning the Fight Against the World’s Leading Cause
of Preventable Death
The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is a leading force in the fight to reduce tobacco use and its deadly toll in the United States and around the world. Our vision: A future free of the death and disease caused by tobacco.
We work to save lives by advocating for public policies that prevent kids from smoking, help smokers quit and protect everyone from secondhand smoke.
How We Fight Tobacco
To achieve our mission, we:
- Promote public policies proven to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke. These include higher tobacco taxes, comprehensive smoke-free laws, well-funded tobacco prevention and stop-smoking programs, and tough regulation of tobacco products and marketing.
- Expose and counter tobacco industry efforts to market to children and mislead the public.
- Strengthen tobacco control efforts in the United States and worldwide by providing support and information to our many partners.
- Mobilize organizations and individuals to join the fight against tobacco.
- Empower a tobacco-free generation by fostering youth leadership and activism.
- Inform the public, policy makers and the media about tobacco’s devastating consequences and the effectiveness of the policies we support.
Saving Lives in the U.S. and Around the World
In the United States, we advocate at the national, state and local levels for the proven policies that reduce tobacco use and save lives.
Internationally, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids supports governments and non-governmental organizations in promoting and implementing these policies. We are a partner in the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use, which focuses on low- and middle-income countries where more than 80 percent of tobacco-related deaths will occur in the coming decades.
While we have made enormous progress in the United States, tobacco still kills more than 400,000 Americans every year. The worldwide death toll is at more than five million a year and climbing. With your support, we can win the fight against the world’s leading cause of preventable death.
Created in 1996, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that accepts no government or tobacco industry funding. We rely on contributions from individuals, philanthropic foundations, corporations and other non-profit organizations.

Going to the many gifting suites in Los Angeles you will find that many are held in the some of the hottest and best known hotels in Hollywood and Beverly Hills. GBK is no different, except that GBK always goes one step further and does a complete design concept for each event.
It is always exciting to walk in to see what wonderful design concept they have come up with for each event and this year for the Academy Awards I was lucky enough to find out who was designing.
The following was my conversation with Danielle Rios designer and Nadine Jolson part of GBK PR all about the show and the incredible designs based on exquisite gowns from Valentino and Alexander McQueen, for this year. – JW
The Design
From Runways to Red Carpets to Oscar Lounges, Rios will showcase fashion-influenced vignettes, styled with an elegant, edgy display of furnishings and decorative touches at the lounge for Nominees and Presenters. The celebrity-gifting event will be held at the Sofitel Hotel in Los Angeles on Friday February 21st and Saturday February 22nd from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“I believe that there is always the possibility for style and unexpected glamour,” says Rios, “I am thrilled and honored to be working with the leader in luxury gift lounges, GBK.” – Danielle Rios
Rios, a former Tadashi model, takes her experience from the runway to interior design for high-end residential, hospitality and commercial designs. By infusing her knowledge and expertise from both worlds, Rios established a unique trademark in creating fashionable interiors. The mixing of fashion sensibilities and interior design is a collective approach that she takes with every job.
“Time-honored style and fresh avant-garde elements create dynamic groupings and spaces,” Rios says. A modernist at heart, Rios adds a traditional twist into her designs.
Contributing manufactures and contractors are: Elitis wall coverings and Bergamo and Rubelli fabric by Donghia Inc., Gaetano fabric by Elan Collections, Leather by Moore & Giles Inc., Nolita Sofa from the Magni Collection, Kailash Table by Chista, Grand Facet by Gary Hutton, Sophia Floor Lamp by Fuse Lighting, Reborn Antiques, Ryan Gallery, and John Jory LLC. s
Rios received her Bachelors of Science for Architectural Interior Design from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She is a registered Interior Designer and Associate for AIA in the state of Nevada and has offices in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Danielle Rios
Danielle’s high expectations and personal drive have launched her into an exciting venture of design and construction development. Working on multi-million dollar estates, commercial properties and collaborating with Clientele has proven to be a successful endeavor. Since the commencement of her business, the focus has been on predominately high-end residential, hospitality and commercial design. This past year however, Danielle has expanded her creativity to antique furniture importation and renovation. Creating unique pieces into timeless furniture with an updated style and sense of elegance has expanded her savvy expertise in design.
Prior to Danielle creating her own business, her formative years were rooted in hospitality design. She worked and cultivated her skill for two leading design firms in Las Vegas for six years. Soon after, those connections led to a joint design venture that launched luxury international hospitality projects. It was during those formative years that she realized that her enthusiasm for design was geared around creating alluring, exciting spaces and adjusting with an ever-changing world.
Danielle Rios was born in Puerto Rico. She received her Bachelors of Science for Architectural Interior Design from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and is a registered Interior Designer in the state of Nevada. Danielle is currently operating out of Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

The Surfrider Foundation
MISSION
A little over 25 years ago three people in Malibu, California found out that their favorite wave was about to be destroyed. Think about that for a second.
Think about something you love… something that gives you enjoyment. Taken away.
First Point, pictured to the right, the quintessential perfect California wave was about to be destroyed. Those three people organized and worked with the local municipalities until they were satisfied that their efforts to preserve that iconic wave would be successful.
This was the genesis of Surfrider Foundation.
Today, we are doing this same thing in about 18 countries around the world.
Our mission is the protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network.
You can think about that as three concepts. “Protection and enjoyment”, we don’t want to put a velvet rope around a beach and tell people to keep off. We’re surfers, we’re beach goers, we’re watermen… we enjoy the coasts. We’re a user group. Next up is “oceans, waves and beaches.” Think coastlines, we’re engaged with environmental issues that affect our coastlines. “Powerful activist network” speaks to how we go about this mission. We are a grassroots organization. We’re local in many coastal regions.
We’re moms, we’re surfers, we’re kids and teens… we’re you. We’re engaged to protect what we love: oceans, waves and beaches.
We would love to have you join us, you can join Surfrider here.

JK Simmons Supports Sunshine Kids
JK Simmons of The Closer and Spiderman Supports Kids with Cancer through Sunshine Kids
I caught JK Simmons of The Closer and Spiderman at the GBK Academy Awards Gifting Suite while he was out supporting the many vendors and non-profits the the event.
JK talked to us about the Sunshine Kids. A charity that puts together all kinds of great trips and adventures for kids suffering with cancer.
JK Simmons may be one of the most versatile actors in the industry today as he has played so many diverse roles. It is always nice to interview someone with initials for a first name. Thanks JK. – JW
JK Simmons
Simmons was a Broadway actor and singer. He was in the revival of Guys and Dolls as Benny Southstreet. In 1994 he sang multiple roles in the Wagner opera satire, DAS BARBECU.[3]
He also played the role of Jigger in a revival of Carousel with the Houston Grand Opera. He also starred in the 1987 Off-Broadway musical Birds of Paradise.
Simmons is known for his TV roles as Dr. Emil Skoda, a police psychiatrist, who has appeared on three of the four incarnations of Law & Order and New York Undercover, and as the sadistic inmate Vernon Schillinger on the prison drama Oz. He also stars as Ralph Earnhardt, the father of race-car driver Dale Earnhardt, in 3: The Dale Earnhardt Story. He played B.R. in the film Thank You For Smoking and has been praised for his performance in Juno as “Mac” McGuff, the title character’s father. Currently, he plays Will Pope, Assistant Chief of the LAPD, in The Closer.
He also played J. Jonah Jameson in all three Spider-Man films and the expanded video game adaption of Spider-Man 3. Simmons provided his voice for two newspaper editors in two episodes of the eighteenth season of The Simpsons. The characters are never named, but are obviously meant to emulate the character of Jameson (one, bearing Jameson’s appearance, even demands “pictures of Spider-Man”, then on being reminded he works at a poetry journal, demands “poems about Spider-Man”).
Simmons also provides the voice of the yellow M&M in the product’s commercials, as well as the 3-D film “I Lost My M in Vegas” playing at M&M’s World in Las Vegas, NV. He has also done voiceover work for Norelco razors. He also provided the voice of General Wade Eiling in Justice League Unlimited. He recorded an audio book for Tom Clancy’s Net Force Point of Impact. Like many of his Law & Order co-stars, he also appeared in an episode of Homicide: Life on the Street, portraying a criminal in an episode that crossed over with Law & Order before Simmons joined the cast as Skoda. He also played a small role as an army general in the television sitcom Arrested Development, alongside his Juno co-stars, Michael Cera and Jason Bateman. As well, he played Dan the Barber in the surreal Nickelodeon kid’s show The Adventures of Pete & Pete in 1995. In 2008 he had a small part as the “CIA Superior” in Burn After Reading. Simmons appears also in Postal as Candidate Wells. He has also been featured as Professor Nathaniel Burke of the University of Farmers in television commercials for Farmers Insurance Group beginning in 2010.[4] He also played Paul Rudd‘s father in I Love You, Man
Simmons is quickly becoming known for starring in films that are produced or directed by his friend Jason Reitman, including Thank You for Smoking, Juno, Up in the Air and Jennifer’s Body, written by Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody.
Recently it was confirmed that Simmons will voice the character of Tenzin, an Airbending Master and the son of Aang and Katara, in the 2012 Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Legend of Korra. Also, he will reprise the role as the voice of J. Jonah Jameson in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man and in The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

His latest work is the recently completed movie Karla, in which he plays Detective Burrows. Denison is part of the regular cast as Detective Andrew Flynn in The Closer airing on TNT.
Watch for Major Crimes coming soon on TNT starring Mary McDonnell who I so enjoyed in Battlestar Gallactica. – JW

Alternative Intervention Models
Alternative Intervention Model’s goal it to enrich lives through the arts.
Our mission is to transform and develop hearts and minds of at-risk youth using the arts to inspire critical self-reflection and self-improvement.
Alternative Intervention Models envisions an educational system transformed at its core to recognize the value of “heART Education”: educating the hearts of youth and instilling emotional literacy through training in the arts. Education is a journey of self exploration as well as an exploration of our relationship to the world around us.
Through the process of heART education we help youth examine their purpose and relevance in life. We believe that the most powerful and most effective way to positively effect the minds of youth is to first reach them via the heart with art being the most effective tool. In a time of tremendous pain and struggle globally, it is through the study of arts and the artist that we learn our humanity and develop the skills necessary to heal our diverse communities emotionally while uniting them around shared experiences and values.
Our Core Values
Education – a lifelong process of developing individuals technically, emotionally, physically, spiritually and otherwise to reach their full
potential.
Love – the most powerful force in life, the catalyst of all of our work
and art.
Creativity – a character trait with which we are all born; we believe we are all called to express our unique creativity.
Respect – being aware of and valuing the diversity of other individuals, other cultures, other ways of life.
Empathy – the arts are a tool that help us understand and relate to each other; heART education teaches greater empathy.
Community – it takes a village to raise a child; we live in a global village and are responsible for modeling the best examples for the youth.
Accountability – through difficult and controversial conversations using the arts, we help each other become accountable for ourselves and each other.
1) Artist Intervention – in our Artist intervention programs we hold assemblies at elementary schools, high school, and colleges designed for the specific audiences at these various locations based on the issues that they need to address in their communities. We also operate Mic Sessions workshops at juvenile facilities, community centers, prisons, group homes, and other locations. Artist educators, a diverse selection of music artists perform at assemblies and at Mic Sessions workshops, and focus on unifying members of these various communities using music to breakdown barriers and open lines of communication and freedom of self-expression.
2) Dance Intervention – Karina Smirnoff heads up our Dance Intervention program, working with youth who find dance and movement as their chosen form of artistic self-expression. This program teaches consistency, dedication, attention to detail, and healthy physical and emotional lifestyle.
3) Athletic Intervention – AIM’s Athletic Intervention programs currently include basketball, yoga, and fitness training. Ahmad Clayton directs our Athletic Intervention program, bringing a unique form of basketball training to at-risk youth that focuses on providing a high quality alternative option to high cost athletic after school programs.
AIM’s Athletic Intervention programs help youth grow technically, emotionally, and physically while instilling values such as teamwork, strength, healthy-diet, non-violence, positive work ethic, and good sportsmanship.
4) Acting Intervention – AIM’s Acting Intervention program features guest lectures and workshops from highly experienced film industry professionals that train actors/actresses as artists in every facet of the film entertainment business. Focused mostly on aspiring teenage and young adult actors/actresses, the Acting Intervention program provides mentors, skill training, and career guidance. One of the major goals is to engage these youth and help them learn to tell their narrative and their communities narrative through their work.
5) Media Intervention – AIM’s Media Intervention program provides education in traditional media and new media technology, teaching youth about the resources that are accessible to them within and outside of their communities. We show youth how to effectively communicate on a local and global level using new media and a host of collaborative methods made available via the internet and related technologies.

Thomas Jane
Thomas Jane (born Thomas Elliott III;[1] February 22, 1969) is an American actor known for his roles in the 1999 film Deep Blue Sea, the 2001 TV film 61*, the 2004 film The Punisher and the 2007 Stephen King adaptation The Mist. He also starred in the HBO comedy-drama series Hung.
Early life
Jane was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Cynthia, an antiques dealer, and Michael Elliott, a biogenetic engineer.[1][2] In 1987, he graduated from Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School in Montgomery County, Maryland.
At age 18, Jane relocated to Hollywood to pursue an acting career. He was initially homeless and lived out of his car.[3] Regarding his time as a busker, Jane has noted “I had two songs in my repertoire that I hammered to death — ‘Hey Joe‘ and ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door‘….People used to pelt me with change just to shut me up.”[4]
Career
Jane began his acting career with the Telugu film Padamati Sandhya Ragam (1986), directed by Jandhyala, a renowned filmmaker in Telugu Cinema. His early roles included Zeph in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992). He had supporting roles in several high profile films, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), Boogie Nights (1997), The Thin Red Line (1998), Thursday (1998) and Magnolia (1999). After receiving critical acclaim as baseball player Mickey Mantle in 61*, Jane began receiving leading roles such as that of Andre Stander in the 2003 South African film, Stander for which he gained further critical acclaim.
Jane, director Jonathan Hensleigh and Avi Arad have said in many interviews that Jane was the first and only actor to be asked to play the title role in the 2004 movie The Punisher. Jane initially turned down the role twice, as he did not have much interest in the superhero genre. Jane said that when they asked him the second time to play the Punisher it was Tim Bradstreet‘s artwork of the Punisher that piqued his interest. After finding out that the character was not a traditional superhero, but more of an anti-hero and a vigilante crime fighter, he accepted.[5][6] He read as many Punisher comics as he could find and quickly became a fan. Jane trained for 6 or 7 months with Navy SEALs and gained more than twenty pounds of muscle for the part.[7]
In addition to starring in the movie he contributed his voice to The Punisher and the Gun video games. He also co-owns RAW, an entertainment company he runs along with Steve Niles and Tim Bradstreet. RAW Studios, the company’s comic book division, has released Bad Planet (written by Jane) through Image Comics. Jane would become a spokesperson for Steve Niles and in became the cover model for comic book character Cal McDonald in 2006, as depicted by their partner Bradstreet.
In addition to his screen work, Jane has appeared several times on stage, and received strong critical reviews as Tom in Tennessee Williams‘ The Glass Menagerie, and as Chris in Arthur Miller‘s All My Sons. He has also portrayed a fictionalized version himself in the Fox television show Arrested Development in which the show’s characters have not heard of him, and do not recognize him as the star actor that he is. In 2005, Marvel released The Punisher video game. The video game’s storyline is compiled with different situations and enemies from the Punisher comics, and a character based upon Jigsaw also appeared in the 2005 Punisher video game but with an origin that ties directly into the 2004 Punisher film.

Head Start
The Head Start Program is a program of the United States Department of Health and Human Services that provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families.
Launched in 1965[1] by its creator and first director Jule Sugarman, Head Start was originally conceived as a catch-up summer school program that would teach low-income children in a few weeks what they needed to know to start kindergarten. Experience showed that six weeks of preschool couldn’t make up for five years of poverty. The Head Start Act of 1981[2] expanded the program.[3] The program was further revised when it was reauthorized in December, 2007. Head Start is one of the longest-running programs to address systemic poverty in the United States. As of late 2005, more than 22 million pre-school aged children had participated.
