Tommy Chong on Fighting Cancer with Cannabis Oil and Too Much Sugar in the Diet

JW Najarian and Tommy Chong shTommy Chong and Wife Shelby Talk About Food, Childhood Diabetes, Prostate Cancer and the Use of Cannabis Oil

Tommy Chong comedian, actor, director, producer, writer and activist, along with his wife Shelby, visited his friend Sugar Ray Leonard to support Juvenile Diabetes at SRL’s Big Fighter, Big Cause event on the pier in Santa Monica.

Tommy talks candidly about childhood diabetes and the problems with too much sugar in our diets and he talks with me about prostate cancer and how he cured himself using cannabis oil

As a kid I was a huge Cheech and Chong fan and could recite many of their comedy routines. I got a chance to talk with Cheech Marin at a previous event and so was so glad to see Tommy Chong show up at the Sugar Ray Leonard Big Fighter, Big Cause event.

This event is held on the Santa Monica Pier which is very cool, but it is also a professional a three card fight night, an auction to help JDRF, a bunch of great restaurants showcasing their food and Sugar Ray Leonard himself hosts a bunch of famous fighters, Hollywood stars and elite business professionals.

This year they were honoring my former boss Al Mann with a Golden Glove Award for his work to support JDRF. I used to work for Al at Minimed, now owned my Medtronic, and he was a great boss and a great guy.

Many of my readers know that I was diagnosed with a rare highly aggressive prostate cancer that moved almost immediately into my bones. As a stage 4 cancer patient I am always researching the newest treatments, diets etc… and what seems to be showing up all over the place is news about cannabis being more than a treatment for the side effects of chemo treatments, but they are using cannabis oil to actually fight cancer.

I had heard that Tommy Chong claimed that cannabis oil helped cure his prostate cancer and so I definitely wanted to talk to him about what he had done. Tommy shared with me how he beat cancer using cannabis oil and also talked about junior diabetes and the role of sugar in our diets.

Tommy’s number one tip was to use cannabis oil as a suppository!

It was a thrill to meet Tommy and with some more research I will definitely look at the use of medical cannabis oil in fighting my cancer. – JW

From Wikipedia

Thomas B. Kin “Tommy” Chong  (born May 24, 1938) is a Canadian comedian, actor, writer, director, activist, and musician.

He is well known for his marijuana-themed Cheech & Chong comedy albums and movies with Cheech Marin, as well as playing the character Leo on Fox‘s That ’70s Show. He became a naturalized United States citizen in the late 1980s.

Chong was born at University Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta and given the name Thomas B. Kin Chong at birth. His mother was Lorna Jean (née Gilchrist), a waitress of ScotsIrish and French ancestry, and his father was Stanley Chong, a Chinese truck driver who immigrated to Canada from China in the 1920s. The senior Chong had first lived with an aunt in Vancouver after arriving in Canada.

When Tommy was young, his family moved to Calgary, settling in a conservative neighborhood Chong has referred to as “Dog Patch”. He has said that his father had “been wounded in World War II, and there was a veterans’ hospital in Calgary. He bought a five-hundred dollar house in Dog Patch, and raised his family on fifty dollars a week.” In an interview, Tommy Chong later said,

I dropped out of Crescent Heights High School when I was 16 but probably just before they were going to throw me out anyway. … I played guitar to make money. I was about 16 when I discovered that music could get you laid, even if you were a scrawny, long-haired, geeky-looking guy like me.

Early Career

By the early 1960s, Chong was playing guitar for a Calgary soul group called The Shades. The Shades moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, where the band’s name changed to “Little Daddy & The Bachelors”. They recorded a single, “Too Much Monkey Business” / “Junior’s Jerk”.

Together with band member Bobby Taylor, Chong opened a Vancouver nightclub in 1963. Formerly the Alma Theatre, they called it “Blue Balls”.

They brought in the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, which had never been to Vancouver before. Although Little Daddy & The Bachelors built up a small following, things soured when they went with Chong’s suggestion and had themselves billed as “Four Niggers and a Chink” (or, bowing to pressure, “Four N’s and a C”) before taking on the moniker Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers.

In 1965, the Vancouvers signed with Gordy Records (a subsidiary of Detroit‘s Motown Records). They recorded their debut album, an eponymous release, and their debut single, the Tommy Chong co-composition, “Does Your Mama Know About Me,” which peaked at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100.

While on tour in Chicago for a short time, the band followed opening act The Jackson 5. Chong later referred to the young Michael Jackson as a “cute little guy”. After the band released two additional singles, Chong and Wes Henderson were fired by Clark and Motown producer Johnny Bristol for missing an appointment to apply for Green cards to enable them to live in the US.

The group broke up shortly afterwards, when Chong tried to reduce the number of players covered by the Vancouvers’ contract. He intended that he, Taylor, and Henderson would constitute the group, while other members would be classified as sidemen and session artists.

Chong co-wrote and performed on several Cheech & Chong comedy albums, two of which were nominated for Best Comedy Album Grammy Awards. Tommy also directed four of the duo’s films, while co-writing and starring in all seven with Cheech Marin.

Cannabis Oil and Cancer

Tommy Chong advocates cannabis oil as a cure for prostate and other cancers and there are many studies out their that show that THC and CDB have medicinal properties so I offer up the following for those who want to know. I have spoken with my oncologist about this treatment and she is looking at the studies.

I offer this information from Dennis Hill because I thought it was extremely interesting on the subject, but only to explain, I do not, at this time, endorse cannabis oil as a treatment for the cure of prostate cancer. To be honest I have no idea if it works. I have seen a lot of anecdotal (testimonial) evidence claiming exciting results, but have also read about the failures. Make sure you check with your oncologist about or before undergoing any additional therapies or procedures you are already undergoing.

There are studies that show promise. You might want to check Google https://www.google.com/search?q=cannabis+oil+cancer+research

How Cannabis Oil Works to Kill Cancer Cells
By: Dennis Hill

First let’s look at what keeps cancer cells alive, then we will come back and examine how the cannabinoids CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) unravels cancer’s aliveness.

In every cell there is a family of interconvertible sphingolipids that specifically manage the life and death of that cell. This profile of factors is called the “Sphingolipid Rheostat.” If endogenous ceramide(a signaling metabolite of sphingosine-1-phosphate) is high, then cell death (apoptosis) is imminent. If ceramide is low, the cell is strong in its vitality.

Very simply, when THC connects to the CB1 or CB2 cannabinoid receptor site on the cancer cell, it causes an increase in ceramide synthesis which drives cell death. A normal healthy cell does not produce ceramide in the presence of THC, thus is not affected by the cannabinoid. – See more at: http://www.cureyourowncancer.org/how-cannabis-oil-works.html#sthash.Qglejqrn.dpuf

More importantly for this article we were all at the event to honor and support JDRF which is working hard to find a cure and new treatments for Type 1 diabetes. – JW

JDRF Diabetes Type 1JDRF

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, regulatory influence, and a working plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure T1D.

As the largest charitable supporter of T1D research, JDRF is currently sponsoring $568 million in scientific research in 17 countries. In 2012 alone, JDRF provided more than $110 million to T1D research.

JDRF is going through a major rebranding right now. It used to be known as the juvenile diabetes research foundation, but JDRF had become the leader in the fight against type 1 diabetes over all and 85% of type 1 diabetes sufferers are adults so JDRF just wants to be known as JDRF and will work to help all age groups suffering with this terrible disease. – JW

The Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation was established in 2009 by boxing legend and six-time world champion Sugar Ray Leonard and his wife, Bernadette.

The Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation is committed to raising funds for research and awareness towards a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.

Throughout Leonard’s boxing career, he watched his dad and friends struggle with the many complications of diabetes and how it has affected every aspect of their life.  Type 1 diabetes strikes both children and adults at any age.  It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.  Type 2 diabetes in children is on the rise, fueled largely by the obesity epidemic.

Leonard draws from his personal experience and boxing career to provide inspiration for funding research to combat the disease.  This is one fight, together, we will win.

Big Fighter, Big Cause

The annual “Big Fighters, Big Cause” Charity Boxing Night, co-hosted by B. Riley & Co., is the Foundation’s premier fundraising event that raises funds and awareness for Juvenile Diabetes Research.  The event brings together over 1,500 guests, comprised of C-suite executives from nearly 200 public companies across a range of sectors, leading institutional investors, high net worth individuals, financial services professionals, celebrities, sports legends, and other high-profile individuals.
