After Loosing Her Husband to a Terrible Accident Rebecca Crownover Needed to Explain to Her Daughter What Happened to Her Father.
After the loss of her husband to a tragic ATV accident, Rebecca Crownover struggled to find a book that explained this tragic loss in a simple way that her daughter Acie could understand and relate to.
Taking what she learned through this awful tragedy, Rebecca wrote one, that with a simple story, could appeal to children and adults to help to answer the hard questions.
I have had several interviews with people who have lost loved ones and I always go into these interviews worrying that I might say something wrong or that I will ask some stupid question that will come off as unsympathetic.
Rebecca was so wonderful to talk to and I really had a feeling she would be after reading her book. This is a great interview for people who have suffered loss and as always we talk to this author about the writing, publishing and marketing process of getting a book out.
I mention in the interview that I am not a person of faith, but I want to say though I do not consider myself any one religion, I do believe in a higher power and fully appreciate Christian teachings. However, although this book comes off as a Christian book for children, I believe it actually transcends both.
The fact is that we all will probably face the loss of a loved one at some time in our lives, and this book simply answers complex questions that will tend to help children feel some comfort during a very hard time in their lives and adults will really appreciate the story, sentiment and the message. A wonderful book with incredible illustrations by Elisa Moriconi. Thanks to Rebecca for answering my questions. – JW
My Daddy Is In Heaven With Jesus was written to help other children through their own tragedy of losing a parent. When Acie lost her dad, Rebecca needed something simple and to the point for her two-and-a-half-year-old. Most of the books she found were too complex and books that Acie did not understand. My Daddy Is In Heaven With Jesus is a story in the simplest form for a child, based on actual events that Acie went through as she tried to deal with the loss of her dad. This beautifully illustrated children’s book (Illustrated by Elisa Moriconi) takes tragedy and turns it into a message of hope for the future. My Daddy Is In Heaven With Jesus is an excellent resource for counselors, teachers, parents, churches and any individual that has lost a parent. This book appeals to adults as well as children. My Daddy Is In Heaven In Jesus is a book you will want on your shelf when you need a little reminder about life and how precious it is.
A life-long resident of the Texas Panhandle, Rebecca Crownover grew up in Sunray, Texas, a small farming community. Her grandfather was a farmer and through junior high and high school years, she worked on the farm driving tractors and irrigating crops through row water irrigation. Rebecca attended Texas Tech University and then moved off to the big city of Dallas, taking a job traveling around the world as a technology consultant. In 2003, she moved back to the Texas Panhandle marrying Adam, a native to Dumas and a farmer. They had a beautiful little girl in 2007 and named her Acie. Tragedy struck in 2009 when Adam passed away from a head injury incurred in an ATV accident. It was not only a loss to Rebecca and Acie, but also a big loss to the Crownover family and their family farming business. Searching for guidance, Rebecca attempted to find a book that could help Acie understand the loss of her dad. When she was unable to find a book written at her daughter’s level of understanding, she decided to write her own children’s book. The result is My Daddy Is In Heaven With Jesus.
Since Adam’s death, Rebecca has remained a business partner with her in-laws to carry on Adam’s legacy and to continue her role of contribution to the farming business, an industry that has always been a part of her life.
As a single mom and only parent, Rebecca has found her life to be a true blessing. Tragedy in her life has only spawned a deeper appreciation for it. Life is so precious and if she can be an inspiration of strength to others through her experiences, then her life purpose is being fulfilled.

Book Title: My Daddy Is In Heaven With Jesus – Rebecca Crownover
Give Us Your Story, Background, History or something interesting that might tie you to the book.: I am a farmer by profession who grew up in the small country town of Sunray, Texas in the Texas Panhandle. My grandfather was a farmer and through junior high and high school years, I worked on the farm driving tractors and irrigating crops through row water irrigation. After college and after traveling around the world as a technology consultant with Accenture, I moved back to the Texas Panhandle to marry a farmer and build a farming business with my husband’s family. In 2009, tragedy struck on July 4th when my husband, Adam, was killed in an ATV accident. I was left behind with my precious 2 ½ year old daughter, Acie. Searching for guidance, I attempted to find a book that could help Acie understand the loss of her dad. When I was unable to find a book written at my daughter’s level of understanding, I decided to write her own children’s book. The result is My Daddy Is In Heaven With Jesus. Although I remain an active business partner with my in-laws in the farming world, writing children’s book has launched a second career for me that I’m passionate about.
What Is This Book About? What is the theme? Give us a short Description of the Book and the Story.: My Daddy Is In Heaven With Jesus is based on a true story of Acie, a 2 ½ year old, blonde hair, blue eyes little girl losing her father to death in an ATV accident. It’s not a story of how to deal with grief or the mechanics of death, yet a life touching story from a child’s perspective that has a message of peace and hope for the future. It is simple and non-complex that has actual scenes of life events that Acie and myself went through as we recovered from our loss.
Why Did You Write This Book? What compelled you to write this book? Why You and not someone else? : When Adam passed away, I searched for a children’s book that I could put in front of Acie to help her understand the loss of her dad. The books I found seemed to be books that were too advanced for Acie’s level of understanding at 2 ½ year’s old. As Acie and I went through our own healing process, I was compelled to write my own children’s book that deals with the hard topic of death but offer it with beautiful illustrations in story form. I wrote this children’s book, My Daddy Is In Heaven With Jesus, because it was a personal story that I personally experienced with Acie. With my love for writing, I wanted to make this story come to life and use our tragedy to help others.
Why should someone read this book and who should read this book? Who will this book entertain, inspire, educate, help?: My Daddy Is In Heaven With Jesus is a children’s book that is a reminder of life and how precious it is. It is also a book that shows how someone can go through hard times in life and still have the strength and courage to get through it. We all need that reminder! This is a book that can help children who have lost a parent and through my own market research have found that it has been inspirational to adults who have lost a parent even at an adult age. This children’s book is meant to inspire, provide comfort and encouragement to children and adults who have experienced loss of a parent or loss of someone they have loved.
