Robotic Film and Art Video is Spectacular
Ran across this video in Scientific America Online. It had me mesmerized and wanting more. This was picked as a Vimeo staff favorite video.
The video was put together by Bot & Dolly a company that a geek like me would love to visit.
The complexity of the video is astounding and extremely fun to watch. – JW
Box Video
“Box” explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces.
The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera.
Bot & Dolly produced this work to serve as both an artistic statement and technical demonstration.
It is the culmination of multiple technologies, including large scale robotics, projection mapping, and software engineering.
Bot and Dolly believe this methodology has tremendous potential to radically transform theatrical presentations, and define new genres of expression.
Bot & Dolly
A small company with BIG robots.
Bot & Dolly is a design and engineering studio that specializes in automation, robotics, and film making. It’s their mission to advance motion control and automation as a creative medium, and build world-class tools that enable others to do the same.
At the core of their technology is an integrated software/hardware platform that provides precise and expressive control of 6-axis industrial robots.
On top of this core platform they provide industry-specific tool sets such as IRIS to support in the creative process, from prototype to production.
To date, their tools have been used in feature films, national television ads, Las Vegas shows, and large-scale art installations.
Totally mesmerizing. The aesthetic quality was unreal, not to mention the overall sensory experience. I felt like I was at a magic show in a futuristic world with robotic film instead of cards and rabbits. Vimeo always has the best staff picks. I’m going to watch it again right now.
