KTTV Fox 11 News Anchor and local philanthropist Christine Devine returns to host the third annual Walk for Warriors 5K on May 27, 2013.

Devine is the recipient of 16 Emmys, including the Academy’s prestigious Governor’s Award, and one award specifically for a story on injured and disfigured veterans. In 2012, she was named by the Los Angeles Magazine among the “50 Women Changing LA.”“I’m thrilled to be participating in Walk for Warriors,” exclaimed Devine. “With the unique set of challenges facing veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, this event will bring attention to the urgent need for supporting our vets as they transition home.” An active community supporter,

Devine has been honored before the LA City Council, LA County Board of Supervisors  and by the Los Angeles Police Department and LA County Sheriff’s Department. She received the Anna Quindlen Award for philanthropy journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Gracie Allen Award from American Women in Radio and Television, and has been honored by the Associated Press as part of the Best Anchor Team.

A Memorial Day 5K run and walk on the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs campus, will help provide assistance for veterans through transitional housing, job training and placement, counseling, adult basic education classes and family reunification services. Event day is May 27, 2013. The crowd starts to form at 7 a.m. and early arrival is important to allow time for parking and for packet pickup – and to enjoy the event kickoff. The run begins at 8:00 a.m. and the walk start time is 9:00 a.m. Walk for Warriors will feature music along the course and an Expo booth fair with food and local businesses. Here’s what you can look forward to:Great Prizes and Gifts!

Register for the 5K Chip-Timed Run and those that finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their age division will win a Nike prize!The first 1,000 to cross the finish line will receive a Nike drawstring goodie bag filled with Beverly Hills hairdresser to the stars, Nick Chavez hair products and more!*Great music on the course and off!

The National Anthem will be performed by the New Directions Veterans Choir, a group of formerly homeless veterans. They’ve performed on America’s Got Talent, across the nation and internationally!On-course music will be provided by rock/pop band NYCO. NYCO has played over 200 live shows nationwide, and has been featured on MTV and VH1. Be sure to check out their website at www.nyco.com

Traffic/Street Closures:The gates on Bringham Avenue and San Vicente Avenue will be closed. The event entrance will be located at the intersection of Wilshire Blvd. and Bonsall Avenue.
